Dog lover in need of new playmates!

Pet care experience

Our furry family! With all the love and attention I have to give to my own animals, your pooch can expect the same. Plus they will have big brother Alvin (my 12 yo lab) to play with and to show them the ropes. I live in a duplex in the Sherman Oaks area of San Jose (close to willow glen). I have a small fenced in yard. There is a dog friendly field across the street that I use more for exercise. About me: I am 37 years old and I have been around all types of dogs my entire life. I have 6 years professional experience caring for these lovable animals, and am quite confident I can give your pooch a fun filled customized experience no matter how mellow or rambunctious. If you have a new pup and would like him/her to learn some cool new tricks, I can help out with that! Or if you have an older one who never got around to learning some key training, I'm there for you. Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks? Medium or small, playful or mellow, I can't wait to meet yours! My schedule is very open and I'm sure I can accommodate your needs. I look forward to speaking with you! Why I love dog sitting I've been a dog lover ever since I can remember. My first childhood dog, Pokey the german shepherd, was inherited from my grandparents once they were too old to take care of her. Pokey was an old girl, and I was pretty young when she passed, but I can still remember so many great stories about her. My favorite story by far, was one day my grandfather was taking Pokey for a walk around the neighborhood and they ran into some men who didn’t have the greatest intentions. Instead of staying and protecting my grandfather, Pokey ran all the way home sat outside the door and barked until someone followed her back. My grandfather was ok so it turned out to be a funny family story we still share to this day. She was an extremely smart and loyal dog. Our second family dog, Storm, half husky and half elks hound, was the light of my whole families life. He came to us at 9 months as a birthday present for my Mother, and was a sweet fluffy ball of energy. He went everywhere with us, especially in the snow. Something about playing in it made him crazy happy. Must've been the husky side in him! Throughout the years, I've had many amazing dogs, of all different types. I've had a rat terrier named Daisy, a mini Yorkshire terrier named Gizmo, a great big german shepherd named Kantu, whom I rescued from the kennel that I had been working at at the time. Lastly, Alvin, my black lab whom I've had since he was just 8 weeks old. He's now 12 and truly my best bud. At one point I had Kantu, Gizmo and Alvin all living under one roof together. There was never a dull moment in my house and I loved it. That's when I realized I wanted to integrate my passion for animals into a career that I would love waking up for every day. It's a dream come true to be around these lovable pups all day and get paid for it. So, I started this journey working at a boarding kennel, which really opened up my eyes to actual pack behaviors. Being exposed to such a diverse group of dogs, it made me appreciate all types of breeds and temperaments. There was this one particular dog, named Kylie, who had just had her 2 back legs amputated, and was trying to adjust to walking in a wheel chair. It was heart wrenching at first seeing all of her failed attempts at walking with it, but she didn't give up and neither did I. Eventually she got the hang of it, and I was lucky enough to get to witness those first beautiful steps. It was amazing to be able to see the joy it brought her to be able to interact with the other dogs again, and be free to run around in her own new way. About my yard I have a small fenced in yard that is good for potty breaks and wrestling. Not much room for running, however there is a good sized dog friendly field across the street that I use more for exercise. I have recently hopped back on Rover after a 2 year hiatus. I had been recruited for a small Bay Area dog training company. Learning and training from a couple of the best I've ever seen took up most of my time. I’m ready to jump back in to Rover and give your dog the best boarding experience I can possibly give, and now with a training background I feel I have more to offer. My experience administering medication I'm well versed at administering medications. I know some dogs can be finicky, wiggly worms.( I like to think of dogs as forever 2 year olds) I'm comfortable with giving injections, ear cleanings and drops, eye drops, pills, brushing teeth, oral injections, caring for sutures....anything else just ask.

Kristin was fantastic! She provided excellent care for our two dogs, a 7-month-old puppy and a senior dog with specific needs. Throughout their stay, we received regular updates, complete with occasional videos, showing our dogs enjoying their time. Kristin's expertise in pet care and training is evident – she even managed to crate train our puppy. We are fully confident in Kristin and would trust her to take care of our dogs again in the future.

We have used Kristin multiple times and she always treats our dog with love and care. Our dog had a pretty bad skin issue and she managed it well and kept us well informed. Our dog has always come back happy from his time with Kristin. Thanks as always!

Information Kristin R. would like to know about your pet

I would need to know about your dog’s level of obedience, their temperament, any quirks, allergies, or aggression/anxiety triggers. Is your dog an escape artist? Anything to make sure your dog is very happy and comfortable while staying with me. Other than that, just information about their daily routines and walk/potty times, favorite toys and games they like to play, when and what they eat. I have no breed preferences. I am used to handling all sizes and temperaments and have found that not all breeds follow into the same behavioral categories that is found "normal" for that specific breed. I go on a dog by dog basis, never on breed stereotypes. In most cases, I learn fairly quickly what will work for any particular dog in terms of safe play/dog interaction and excersize to ensure that our stay together is pleasant, exciting and tiring. It is important to remember that I have my own dog plus usually at least one from my training company, so if your pooch doesn't get along with other dogs then we may not be the right fit for you.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks For exercise we will do either neighborhood walks or go to the field across the street for some running and ball chasing. My yard is good for wrestling! Your dog's sleeping arrangement: I tend to let the smaller dogs sleep with me in my bed. For the bigger dogs, there are beds throughout the house and they are welcome on the couch. For busy times such as holidays, there is a garage off of the kitchen with beds and crates if needed. The door is always open, I just use a baby gate to keep them from wandering around at night. Time I'll spend with your dog The expectations of the owners and what is agreed upon between us are the most important things for me to go by, but hosting dogs in my house, I will plan on being with them the majority of the time. I work from about 10-2. If your pup is well socialized, he/she can come to work with me and meet a lot of other interesting dogs. If not they will have free roam of the house to relax for the few hours that I'm gone. Other than that I will most likely be home with them or out having some fun together. Extra house-sitting services When I was a little girl, with many baby sitting gigs, my father told me to always leave the house you work at cleaner than when you got there. Lets just say it is something that has stuck with me. I definitely think of cleaning as part of the job. After all I'm not just pup sitting but also house sitting. Don't be shy to ask me about something else that comes to mind that you think might need to be done while you're away. If I'm able to do it, I'd be more than happy to.
