I always set up meet and greets before taking care of your dog so that your dog has met me at least once and recognizes me. If your dog is staying at my apartment, I always like for them to sniff around so that they can get comfortable before staying with me, and so that you can make sure that you are comfortable leaving your dog where I live. I live on the third floor of my building, so I like to make sure that your dog does well with stairs. If I am staying at your house, I like to make sure that I feel comfortable in your home and that I know how to not only properly care for your dog, but for your home as well while you are away. I would like to know the history of your dog and what your dog's normal routine includes. Does your dog have any medical issues? Does your dog like long or short walks? How often does your dog need to use the restroom? Is your dog allowed to have dog treats? Does your dog sleep in the "people bed", the couch, a dog bed or a crate? Does your dog chew on furniture, blankets, or anything else? Is your dog housebroken? How often and at what time does your dog eat? Does your dog get along with other people and animals? Do you take your dog out in public to dog friendly places?
