Pet care experience

The biggest reason why I became a pet sitter is that I simply just love to provide care for those in need. I believe that I can make a difference in an animal’s life, so it’s always my priority to give back to them however possible. Dogs are so wonderful and selfless, and I’ve always tried to emulate their amazing spirit! I love that, as a dog sitter, I can simultaneously make a dog’s day and give back to my community by providing peace of mind to owners while they’re away from their best friend. My experience as a dog lover begins as an owner. I’ve been a dog owner my whole life, and have owned a Chow Chow/Golden Retriever Mix and two Terrier mixes. One of those Terrier mixes is my current pup, Sadie! She’s one of the world’s friendliest dogs and loves having new friends over to play with and socialize. In addition to being a longtime dog owner, I have also undergone firsthand training. I’m pet CPR and first-aid certified, so I’m prepared for anything! That means that your pup will be in good hands with me, no matter what. I’m currently a grad student, but my summers will be free for pup handling! After May 5th, I will have my entire days free. That means that I’ll be able to have tons of face time with your pup. That also means that I’m a great fit for dogs that are used to having a human presence around, or ones that could benefit from that. My summer days will be completely reserved for dogs, so the opportunities are limitless! When taking on a new client, I typically like to schedule a meet-and-greet. It’s a great way to make sure that we’re all a good fit for one another, which is so important to me. Likewise, it gives us the opportunity to chat face-to-face about your pup and your care expectations. No one knows your dog better than you do, so it’s always great to chat with owners in person about what makes their pup tick! Finally, I just love meeting new dogs! I like to get down on their level to show them that I’m a welcome presence here to make friends, and I’m sure we’ll be best buddies in no time at all.

Great. My pup is normally really nervous being left with strangers, but he seemed to feel very comfortable and chill with her. Would board again.

Kristi was absolutely wonderful with Bailey. She sent lots of updates and pictures. I felt totally comfortable and at ease leaving him, and he seemed to have a blast as well!

Kristi was so trustworthy and nurturing. She has vast experience with dogs, and I couldn’t have been more fortunate to place my pet in her caring hands. She made both of us feel safe, and at ease right away. I felt so confident that my cherished dog was in the best hands possible. He fell in love with her right away ! I couldn’t have had a better experience.

I like to assess each dog's own temperament by themselves and with other pups. A slow and behaviorally-specific introduction will help me determine how each pup interacts with me and/or with other pups. I have gates just in case.

Information Kristi L. would like to know about your pet

Some things I like to learn ahead of time: Would you like to schedule a meet-and-greet before the stay? What’s your preferred method of communication? Does your pup have any health issues that need to be tended to? For instance, dietary restrictions, medicine, or behavior triggers? Do you have a vet nearby that you trust? Is your dog spayed/neutered? Does your pup like to stick to a given schedule, like regular walks in the morning and evening? What does your pup do well around? What does your pup try to avoid? What’s the best way to spoil your pup?

A typical day

Although I will follow the owners’ instructions when designing a stay, I also have a general outline for what a typical day would look like. First, we would start with a small walk in the morning before coming back for a snack or lunch time. Then we'd play in the house with some toys, relax a little, and then go out for another walk—but this time a little longer to burn off some additional energy during the day. At this point, we’d go to a dog run where he, if he wanted to, could run around and burn off any excess energy. Then we'd head back in, have a snack or dinner, and relax inside. By night time, we’d head out on one last walk of the day to burn off any last energy before bedtime. My home is a railroad-style apartment. This is great because if, for some reason, some pups don't get along, I can separate them easily with baby gates. I live in Manhattan, specifically the West Village—very close to Washington Square Park, where there is a fabulous dog run! I'm sure your pooch would love that. And if not, there's plenty of room to play in my apartment! I’m always happy to explore with dogs and love seeing the happiness on their face when they get to go out and explore something new. New York is always full of great places to explore, so I’m sure that we’d get the opportunity to head out for some fun adventures.
