Pet care experience
I've owned and cared for my own pets and others for more than half my life. I've also volunteered at shelters, cared for foster and rescue pets, and bred and raised puppies and kittens at various points in my life. I have even delivered 2 litters of pups previously. I've also brought sick animals back to health (puppies w/parvo) and administered oral, ocular, topical, and subcutaneous medication and shots. I am a single mom to 19 year old twins and 4 furbabies, 3 dogs and 1 cat (with 4 others in the home). I believe the animals we have as pets (and even those we revere in nature) are just slivers of our own soul, coming home to us. This is why we love them so fiercely. We recognize them as part of us, and we want to give them the same care and love that we ourselves seek. I am happy to take on restricted breeds and bigger dogs as long as they have no behavioral issues, their shots are up-to-date, and they are house and/or leash trained! My own schedule is flexible and I am usually able to take on a pet situation with short notice. I'm also available for some holidays if scheduled far enough in advance.

Kemari is incredible! I have known her for over 20 years and I have never seen a more caring and nurturing person around animals. She helped take care of my first dog years ago and was one of the few people I trusted him with. Several years ago, Kemari was there to care for my two dogs when I was taking care of my ailing grandmother. She also helped me recently when both dogs were diagnosed with terminal illnesses. Kemari went above and beyond to watch them, house sit, and feed and groom them. She also helped us when we chose holistic approaches to ease their pain. She sees animals as an extension of ourselves, and this is what makes her so good with animals. She knows that your pet is your family!

I want to know what your pet's personality is -- what their likes are, how they have fun, what makes their tails wag, and of course, what causes them stress or anxiety (so we can make sure to reduce any possibility of those issues)! It helps to know the breed, if there are behavioral or medical problems, aggressive patterns, people / things they may not like or have an issue with, if they are crate / leash trained, how you reward them (not just w/treats but also tone of voice, certain commands, etc), and how you may show them they have done wrong (this is super important for pet care providers to know, so we can provide a seamless authoritative presence for your dog without risking problems for you later). It also helps to know if they have other triggers or allergies, or house / neighborhood rules they must follow.
A typical day
When I watch your dogs in your home, I will play with them in a designated area and keep them active. We will go for walks in your neighborhood, if applicable, or at a local dog park or grassy, shaded area. I will also make sure to love and pet your dog, reinforce good behavior, and make sure that he/she has gone potty enough, drank enough water (Jax can get hot!), and eaten or taken meds, if necessary.
