Welcome Stittsville Pet Parents! 🐾 My name is Kelsey and I have been helping folks take care of their dogs and cats since July 2019. I started this business longing for animal companionship, as my partner Abeal and I were living alone in Markham (GTA) where we had no family or friends. What was an experimental hobby quickly led me down different professional avenues in the pet care industry. During the pandemic, I spent 6 months working at a veterinary hospital so I have the utmost respect for animal staff. I learned a lot about vaccines, spay and neuter surgeries, and general pet health. Although it was a valuable experience, I prefer the flexibility and exercise of maintaining my own pet services business instead. Since then, this has become my full-time career and I’m blessed to spend every day filled with 5-12 furry friends. I take a lot of pride in exercise-filled visits, averaging 20-25 KMs of walking a day. In doing so, your dog comes back happy and ready for a nap! In October 2022, Abeal and I made the difficult decision to leave our clients and restart CaninesWithKelsey in our hometown of Ottawa. We miss all of our pals in Markham but are lucky to visit them twice a year. My business in Stittsville has taken off and I am so happy to be welcomed in the community 🎉 At this time, we are only looking for: - existing clients wanting to add more walks - drop in kitty clients Please note that we have NO OPENINGS for weeklong OVERNIGHT CARE until June 2024. *We do NOT do boarding in our own home, as per our rental agreement. Thank you for trusting me with your pets 🥰 About Me: I don’t have my own dog so it’s nice to still get my daily dose of wiggly bums. Growing up, my family had a soft spot for large breeds, so they are what I am most comfortable with. Our family dog was a golden retriever (the inspiration for my logo!) and I am currently the auntie to my sister’s St.Bernard, and Bernese Mountain Dog. I would love to have my own dog but don’t want to commit until I can give it the yard it deserves. I started an Instagram to showcase all of my fun client photos. I have my own car so driving to your home won’t ever be an issue, although I am trying to limit my service area to Kanata and Stittsville only. Abeal is my partner, and although he is listed under Rover - he does not actively participate in my business. I am vaccinated for COVID and do tests regularly to track exposures. *Meet and Greets are required for all pets before our services start! **Pets must be up-to-date on vaccines!

For overnight and pet sitting care, please let me know how long your dog is able to stay home alone. This informs me how frequently they need to use the bathroom, as I may need to step out for other walks. If they cannot be left alone for more than 3.5 hours at a time, we are not a good fit. *Please note that while I am happy working with instructions from a trainer to keep a dog’s behaviour consistent, I am not a dog trainer. **I don’t work with dogs that have a bite history.
A typical day
I try to keep dogs on their regular routine. On weekdays, house sit clients will receive a 30 minute check in/walk every 3 hours. I do not have the availability to provide “constant care” (i.e never leaving the home of house sit clients) and will only consider providing constant care service in houses of 3+ dogs. Walks will be private unless otherwise discussed. I enjoy trail walks but this is only available if dogs are on flea/tick prevention. I carry coyote spray in areas where sightings have been reported. All dogs must be on leash to be covered by my insurance. Retractable leashes are not accepted. *** Some pets have a difficult time accepting medication from strangers. If your pet requires life-saving medication in chronic or acute illness cases, we may not be a good fit. I do not enjoy giving SQ fluids.

Availability
I dog walk full-time 7 AM to 5 PM, and additional walks on weekends when I am house sitting. This is my career, not a hobby.
