Rescue Dog Mom and Sitter!

Pet care experience

I love that every dog has their own personality and their own quirks and special things about them. I think what I love most about dogs is that they love you just as much as you love them. With three dogs of my own I know the stress of going out of town. They all have their own personalities, likes, dislikes, schedules and needs. When I go out of town I like them to feel as at home as possible. Even though I am not there I like their normal needs and schedules to be met. Pictures and updates are also a huge part of customer service to me. When I am out of town and get an update or picture from my dog sitter it greatly puts my mind at ease. Then I do not have to wonder how they are doing and how things are going. This is exactly what I offer as a sitter; care that is as identical as possible to yours, and updates to keep you in touch with your canine companion. All of my dogs I have taken in from less-than-ideal circumstances, one of them I even found in a box on the roadside! All three I carefully rehabilitated and socialized myself. In the process I learned a lot about patience, compassion, and of course, dog behavior. They are my family now, and they are as enthusiastic as I am about welcoming dogs into our home.

Kelsey is a great sitter! My dogs need a lot of medicine and special care as they are 15 and 16 years old. She was great with this and didn’t run into any issues. She even brought something to my attention about one of their medical conditions that I hadn’t noticed myself. Not to mention the dogs love her! I would highly recommend her!!

Kelsey has cared for my dogs on multiple occasions and each time my dogs were very well taken care of and as happy as can be when I returned home. She is great about sticking to the routine my dogs are used to so my dogs are comfortable while I am gone. She is great with both my dog who is more laid back and likes to just hangout as well as my dog who is very hyper active – she’s even taken him hiking! She sends me updates every time she goes over to the house and sends lots of pictures. I always feel that my pets are in great hands and am stress-free while I am away!

Information Kelsey B. would like to know about your pet

Before sitting for any dog I will do home visit for a meet and greet but then to also see what the dog’s daily schedule looks like. When do they eat, when do they need to go out, do they need medicine, what is their favorite toy or activity? All of this is extremely important information for me to know so I can make sure the dog is happy and healthy while their owner is gone. If a dog is timid or aggressive and does not want to make new friends at the moment I will always back off and give the dog space. When it is ready to approach me then I will let it sniff me, gain its trust with me and become comfortable. I have no preference when it comes to breed; I love all dogs, of all shapes and sizes.

A typical day

Although I work a 9-5 job I have a lot of flexibility. I am able to leave for long lunches, leave early or come in late if need be to accommodate a pet’s schedule. I like to keep their schedule as close to normal when their owners are gone so this flexibility in my job is important to me. If a dog normally goes on a walk during lunch then I am able to leave during lunch and take them on a walk. The days we spend together will most likely look like the days that their owners are home – plus a hike or two if they enjoy that. I like the dogs to feel as comfortable and at home as possible while their owners are gone so I really try to mimic what their day’s looks like normally. This is why a meet and greet is very important to me so I can really learn all of this information. In addition to all of this there will of course be lots of playing, walks and snuggles! My favorite place to walk is a park right down the street from my house. It is a huge park with a lake and a dog park area! My dogs love going over there and watching all of the ducks in the lake and then going over to the dog park! There are always tons of dog friends here and as an added bonus there is so much grass throughout this area it tends to be about 10 degrees cooler, great in the summer! I love the beauty of the park and the dogs love seeing all of their friends!
