We love our pet care business!

Pet care experience

My partner Mattie and I have been a life long animal lovers, and have owned numerous pets throughout the years. We currently own 2 Mini Labradoodles, who we love and adore as much as our own human children. We always used to say that we’d love to own a farm, and while that’s not quite how things have worked out, caring for other people's pets is a dream come true for us! Our home has a very large fenced in yard for dogs to come and play for the day. Our children are now young teens, and are incredibly helpful and educated about caring for dogs. That being said, any dogs coming to our home for the day will need to be ok with older children coming and going in the house, and also okay around other dogs as we always have a houseful. In addition to dogs, we also love cats very much, and we would be happy to do drop in visits to feed or care for your feline babies. As far as our schedule and flexibility, I work to always accommodate my clients with flexible drop off and pickup times. With I being here full time, and Mattie on a part time basis, there is almost always someone home to be attentive to the dogs and their care, and to manage their arrivals and departures. Safety is always my top priority when it comes to the dogs and their care. Our back yard has separate areas for dogs to play in, to assure a safe and secure place for all sizes, ages, and energy levels of dogs. We group the dogs with other dogs who have similar personality types to assure our guest pets are always appropriately stimulated, and/or has a place to rest. We require all dogs who come to stay with us to be up to date on their vaccinations, including the Bordatella Vaccine to help prevent any outbreaks of Kennel cough. If your dog plays with other dogs at a dog park, attends any day care or boarding facilities, or even a groomer, it’s vitally important to make sure your dog is fully vaccinated for their health and the health of other dogs. We also never feed the dogs any food that isn’t their own, nor any people food, unless directed to do so for treats and such by the dogs owner. All dogs here have their own food bowls while here to avoid food allergy concerns or the spread of viruses. The dogs do share water bowls as it’s somewhat unavoidable for them not to, but we make sure to sanitize them often. In addition, I have a service that comes twice a week to pick up the dog droppings in the yard. We do all we can to prevent any viruses from spreading between the dogs, and appreciate our clients keeping their dogs home from day care if they show any signs of illness. Our family tends to take 2-3 trips per year, which are the only times we are unavailable to take pets, but we make sure to give all of our clients sufficient time to make other arrangements during those weeks. We strive to be available as much as possible to our dog clients who depend on us. Our back yard fence is 5 feet high, and we check it regularly for holes or any possible escape routes to be sure we don’t get any pups trying to take themselves for a walk through the neighborhood. That being said, some dogs are known escape artists, and we never want to lose someone’s beloved fur baby. In such cases, I highly recommend an apple tag, Fi, or other tracking device added to your pups collar, just to be extra cautious.

Hemingway’s first visit for daycare at Kelly’s was a success. Nothing but sweet dogs to hang out with and, Kelly, the host, gives lots of care and attention to the pups.

Please be advised!!! I do not have any breed preferences, however dogs coming to stay with us will need to do well with older children, get along well with other dogs, and be generally well behaved. I am more than happy to assist with training for younger dogs and puppies, and to reinforce any rules you have for your dog that they follow at home. We have a few different sized crates that can be reserved for your dog to sleep in if they use one at home, but you’re also welcome to bring your own. Dogs who do not use a crate at home, would not be crated here either, we try to keep our guest dogs routine as consistent as possible and as similar to what they normally do at home. Dogs who need to sleep in a crate due to behavioral issues or potential accidents while training is fine with us, but we can not accept a dog who is known to bark throughout the night, as we value our sleep. Whining for a short period of time, is totally normal and fine especially when training, but barking throughout the night is not. We also can not accept dogs who are known to be aggressive towards other dogs, as safety for dogs in our care is always our top priority. Our teens have been thoroughly educated about how to properly behave around dogs that are new to us, and how to be cautious, kind and gentle to all of the dogs who come to stay with us. Mattie and I also love, love, love cats too, and will do some drop in visits for clients who own them, but it depends on our availability, we’re often fully booked at home with dogs and need to have the time to be fully attentive to their needs. I will also take small caged animals such as rabbits, ferrits, hamsters.....but no snakes!!

A typical day

If you have a dog who enjoys other dog companions to play with, I always have other dogs here each day who like to play. If napping or staying inside is more their jam, they’ll get along great with my 2 lazy Labradoodles. We group the dogs with other dogs who have similar personality types and energy levels, so they all feel safe, secure, and able to spend their time doing whatever they enjoy most. We’re huge animal lovers, and dote on and care for our guest dogs, just as if they were our own. We live on the Morrison/Littleton border and have a very large fenced in yard for dogs to run around in, and lots of places in the house for naps and cuddles.
