Pet care experience
I am currently a 4th year medical student at KCU! My girlfriend and I started fostering puppies with the KC pet project in May 2015, and later that summer we adopted one of our own, Luna! She is a border collie, lab, and akita mix and she is too smart for her own good. I grew up in a dog loving family. My parents had a poodle mix named Buffy when I was born, and some of my earliest memories are of giving her medicine and taking her on walks with my Dad. Next we had two Boston Terriers. Sadly one of them was blind, so I learned from an early age about being extra careful on walks and in busy areas with her, and about the extra patience required for handling special needs animals in general. Lastly, my Uncle lived with my family for two years with his Malamute and his husky mix. It was quite a crew with the two little terriers and his two big dogs all under one roof! I'm fortunate as a medical student because my schedule is flexible for dog walking and check-ins, I would love to meet more dogs in our area! I'm also available for overnight and extended stays as needed from Topeka all the way to Kansas City, and Lawrence in between. Growing up with a variety of dogs, fostering with the KC pet project, and being a dog owner myself has me confident that I can take care of any dog's needs and adhere to whatever schedule they are used to. I prefer to take Luna on a walk first thing in the morning around 6:30 am; I consider myself a morning person. Daily exercise is the most important part of her day. When I have free afternoons, my favorite parks are Shawnee Mission and Swope Park. I believe the chance for a Dog to run around, play fetch and exert lots of energy is really critical, and can be better than just walk under the right, safe circumstances. If you'd like me to take your dog to the park on a weekend or weekday, I'd love to do that too!
Reviews
I cannot say enough good things about Keith! From the initial meet-and-greet I could tell he is naturally great with animals and enjoys getting to know your pet. Keith is also incredibly thoughtful and respectful to you and your pet's needs, as well as your belongings/space. I felt completely comfortable with my dog in his care. I would strongly recommend him to anyone, and I look forward to booking with him again!
Keith is amazing with Nora our walks have gotten so much better since she has been working with Keith, we love him!!!
Keith is absolutely wonderful to work with. He is flexible and trustworthy, and most importantly he genuinely cares for our dog. I knew Bear was in good hands, and would recommend Keith to anyone. We are looking forward to working with Keith again in the future!
Keith has been awesome with Luna and Leo! As a first time dog foster parent, he has demonstrated patience with crate and potty training as well as the basics like "sit" and "down" with these two young pups. I've seen first hand the time and effort he puts in to keep Luna and Leo healthy and happy. Now as a full time adopter of Luna, he's continued to show love and attentiveness as she progresses!

Information Keith A. would like to know about your pet
Every dog and owner has a unique relationship and expectations. Therefore it is important to know which safety commands you use with your dog; come, leave it, drop it...how do you keep your dog safe away from traffic and to avoid eating something dangerous? Also, how does your dog do with other dogs? Would he/she benefit from time with my dog for the socialization, or is it better to spend time one on one with your pet? Lastly, what expectations do you have for your dog in terms of daily routine? Do you want him or her to practice certain listening skills on walks? Do you reinforce with treats? My goal is to provide your animal with a continuation of what he or she is used to! Tell me exactly how you want our interaction to go, and I'll make sure it happens that way!
A typical day
We have a good neighborhood for going on walks first thing in the morning without traffic. But when there's time, a trip to the park is what Luna and I like best to run, play fetch, and even swim in the warmer months!
