Animal Scientist and Caretaker

Pet care experience

As a first-generation student, I am very proud to hold a degree in Animal Sciences. My studies encompassed diverse subjects, including animal biology, nutrition, physiology, and reproduction. Through a pet-sitting role and a summer internship at the Champaign County Humane Society, I gained hands-on experience working with companion animals such as cats, dogs, hamsters, and guinea pigs. Recently, I have found my true calling in the veterinary medicine field. As a Veterinary Assistant in a busy cat and dog general practice, I've honed my skills in a fast-paced environment, emphasizing resilience and empathy when dealing with animals in challenging situations. Every interaction with healthy, sick, fearful, or challenging animals presents an opportunity for learning and contributing to their overall well-being.

Kayleen was absolutely the sweetest young lady. She stayed at our place with my 2 dogs, a 12 year old Chocolate Lab and a 8 month old mini labor doodle. She emailed me pictures and text me every day on what they were doing. I will definitely have her again . Loved her and my dogs did too! Rae B

Kayleen is a responsible and caring individual who goes above and beyond for the pets she looks after. I have known her for many years and she has been an amazing caregiver for my dogs whenever I need to take a vacation or I’m just unable to walk them regularly due to work demands. Her calm nature and high degree of patience is what I value most about her -these qualities allow my dogs to respond to her better than anyone else I have tried to retain in the past. More than that, she is always prompt and insures that she keeps with my dogs daily regiment and feeding schedule. She also provides me with regular updates on how they are doing. Anyone who chooses to work with Kayleen will be more than satisfied with her services!

Kayleen has always worked well with animals. Ever since she got her first dog, Rosie, she was automatically an animal enthusiast. A few years later, she got her second dog, Batman. Rosie and Batman now live in Chicago under the care of her parents. Even when Kayleen was away at college, she always prioritized visiting her family, including her dogs. Furthermore, I have witnessed her convince her family to take care of a feral cat who now lives outside of her Chicago home. Not only has she found her passion for animals, but she also spread the awareness of animal welfare. I am proud to have previously worked with her; she is a hard worker.

Information Kayleen H. would like to know about your pet

I would love to understand your pet's background. Did you adopt them? Are they a rescue? What has been their life experience so far? I would love to know their personality and whether they are social with other animals or humans.

A typical day

My regular walk and care routine usually involves as much enrichment as possible: exercise, playtime, training time, snuggles, or toys. I know unconditional care, love, and trust are the only way into a pet's heart.

Pet care fits into my daily and weekly routine because I understand the help that owners may need with their fur babies. I have two dogs of my own, Rosie and Batman. I was fifteen when Rosie first came into my family's life. Within a few months, I was able to house-train her into a fantastic dog. A year later, we got our rescue, Batman. I am twenty-two and proud to own two of my sweetest companions. So I understand the feeling of leaving your fur babies under the care of someone else. Although it is hard to do, I hope you can trust me as their caretaker.
