I have been a fierce advocate of dogs since 2008 when my roommate adopted a dog (flat-coated retriever mix) from the local animal welfare league. I fell in love. DEEP love. This new pup completely changed how I felt about dogs (really, all animals). It was because of her that I volunteered at another local shelter, and I did everything from manning their booth at dog adoption events to interviewing potential adoptive dog parents. I wanted to do everything and anything I could to educate the world about dogs, breeds, adoptions, shelters, rescues, etc. In December of 2012, I decided to foster a dog going through heartworm treatments (she needed a quiet and calm spot). I fell in love again. This time was different because she was under my care and responsibility. I adopted her a month later. Her name was Dora, and she was the love of my life. Sadly, she passed away from cancer in May of 2021. She is why I'm (back) here on Rover. My love for her will always be in my heart, available to give to others.
