Trustworthy w/ 'high needs' pets 🐾

Pet care experience

Throughout my life of caring for mostly dogs and cats, I've acquired a lot of experience and knowledge with giant breeds, medical needs, socialization issues, leash reactivity, elderly animals & more. Below is my "story" if you'd like to read what kind of experience/knowledge I have and where it came from! But first some formalities: - I work from home and for myself so I have a very flexible schedule. - Besides some errands and dog walks, I'm not usually gone a lot and will typically be back within 3-4 hours. - My stay price includes 1 30 minute walk per day. - I'm vaccinated & COVID conscious. - I have the most experience with dogs and cats but willing to expand for the right fitting job; I do have experience with some other small animals. My story: A few years ago I rescued a Tibetan Mastiff puppy, Freya. She became my whole world, partly because she was my whole heart and partly because she needed a whole world of attention. (For those that don't know TMs, they are incredibly hard to deal with dogs. They're strong, stubborn, gigantic bearlike predators that have leash reactivity, intense door guarding/protection instincts and more.) I became an amateur dog trainer and whisperer thanks to her. Now, most of my clients are those with 'difficult' dogs and therefore I have extensive experience with high needs animals. I'm incredibly attentive to the animals, give them all of the love you'd want them to have while you're not around, and willing (and excited) to keep up with the training you work hard on with them. Before leaving NYS, the owner of Freya's brother asked me if I would ever consider rehoming her to their family so that Freya and her brother could be together. The family lives on the bottom of a ski hill in a small, snowy resort town with all of the space and attention. It was the hardest decision of my life but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't choose what was best for her - which was being with her brother. I miss having my dogs so much and this yearning brought me to professional dog-sitting. Previous to Freya, I owned 2 mutt puppies, a rabbit, half-owned multiple senior dogs with my family and lived with numerous cats (some with medical needs). I've worked at the SPCA for years assisting with kennel operations and feeding. I've helped clients and friends with simple canine training exercises/ideas, med administration, socialization, dog walking and troubleshooting. Your animals will be loved and with great communication and updates, I will make sure that you have no qualms or worries while you're away from them.

Not only did Katie do an amazing job watching my bulldog and bunny, but she’s a genuinely, kind, person which really put my mind at ease while we were away. The updates, the responsiveness, the way she left the house,, you’d never known she was even there. My animals were well taken care of and she did a great job of filling the void while we were gone. Highly recommend and will definitely use again! Thank you Katie!!

Safety, trust & environment

During meet & greets, I make sure to get a good feel for the house and ask about the dog's normal behavior so I can assess situations when I arrive. I'm very communicative so anything I'm unsure of, even in the slightest, I will ask about. I'm very familiar with escape artist dogs so I'm always very conscious of any doors opening, holes in the backyard, etc. I will always take good care of the house as well - mail, plants, etc.

Information Katie C. would like to know about your pet

1. Do they have any reactiveness? On leash, other dogs, cats, mailmen, etc. 2. Do they require any special medication? (Other than putting medication in their food) 3. Will they require walks during the stay? 4. Are there any other quirks/fears/needs I should know of? 5. List if commands or training practices used (it's okay if there aren't any!) I do not have any breed restrictions; the bigger the better!

A typical day

I love to do walks, mental stimulation games and activities, training exercises, possibly hikes if they are physically suited for that! Playing hide and seek with high energy dogs is a great way to expend some energy. Depending on the dog, the owner's approval and the dog's experience, I am happy to go to dog parks for some play time.
