Fenced yard, dog door, & snuggles!

Pet care experience

We are a fun-loving, caring family with three kids -- one human child (teenager), a beagle-mix (9 yrs), and a cat (2+ years). Our beagle-mix is fairly laidback, but loves other dogs. As he has gotten older, he is more chill and sleeps most of the day, but has his playful moments. Our cat is goofy and playful, doesn't mind most dogs but doesn't love them necessarily. He'll stand his ground and give a swipe or hiss when he feels the need! Unfortunately, we cannot host dogs that want to chase or go after cats. Must be cat-friendly (or not care about cats at all!). We grew up with dogs and have had pets (both dogs and cats) all of our lives. Our pets are welcome to sleep with us in bed, use the dog door to go in and out of our fenced in yard, and have lots of snuggle time. One of us works from home, so we often have someone home during the day. Dogs must be able to stay home alone for at least 4-6 hours, as we do leave for our son's hockey games on Saturdays or Sundays for a few hours. We have done lots of in-home pet-sitting for neighbors and friends, so we are excited to take our experience to Rover and bring love and comfort to your babies when traveling!

Kathryn and Josh are incredibly friendly and Luna loves all of her stays with them! Their dog is very well behaved and an excellent playmate for active dogs.

Kathryn and Josh (and their son, Sammy!) were absolutely wonderful with our dog. They were flexible and accommodating, extremely communicative, and definitely knew how to take care excellent care of animals! Our dog is still basically a puppy and needs lots of play time and attention, but that was clearly no challenge for this family. They loved and played with our dog all weekend like it was truly part of their family. I am so happy with our experience and would recommend Kathryn and Josh to anyone!!

We treat any visiting pet like they are our own. They get all the access they want to us during our times we hang out in the living room or are in the kitchen hanging out, in bed with us at night. Unless they have specific eating times, we'll feed breakfast and dinner at our pets' normal times in the morning and night (unless there is a midday feeding needed) and water is always refreshed as many times as needed during the day. Note: if your dog does not finish it's meal, we have to put it up on the counter and offer it later, as our dog will otherwise eat it. Lots of outdoor time in the backyard, plus walks. We are a laidback, chill family, so lower-energy dogs that love to snooze and snuggle fit our family personality really well.

Information Kathryn & Josh P. would like to know about your pet

Overall temperament, habits, any specific daily needs (medications, length of walks, eating/food needs), other quirks, etc. No specific breed preferences. No puppies - we do not have the ability to do puppy training. Must be house trained! Ideally be able to be left alone in a house for a few hours at a time when we have to run out without having anxiety or destroying anything. If this is a potential issue, we recommend bringing a crate for those short periods when we leave the home, to keep your pup feeling safe. A FEW RULES: 1. A "meet and greet" for new dogs is required, to ensure a comfort-level with the cat and our dog, and no territory marking indoors. 2. Dogs must be neutered/spayed. 3. Dogs must be house trained. We understand an occasional accident, which can be common for a dog in a new place. But territory marking, or a dog who has accidents consistently, be it from medical reasons or anxiety or otherwise, cannot be taken in. We have a lot of carpet! 4. Dogs must be fairly relaxed, low energy. While one of us is at home working, we still have to do our jobs and need some quiet time. Dogs who love to play with our dog or chill out in the sun, or relax next to us while working on our laptop and being on conference calls are ideal! We do make time for some exercise and walks and opportunities to burn some energy. 5. Must be cat-friendly or tolerant (or not care about a cat being around!).

A typical day

Dogs tend to love to sunbathe on our deck in our fenced-in yard. Small and mid-sized dogs can usually fit through our dog door, and some dogs learn to use it and can wander in and out. If we have a larger dog, we can open the back door and let them wander in and out of the yard. We have a nice dog-friendly neighborhood for walks. Our beagle mix gets overheated quickly, so we do shorter walks. If your dog needs extra long walks, this may not be the best set-up.

Availability

Usually one of us is working from home each day between our work schedules. Our son is at school. So we can often provide plenty of attention, but we do require dogs to be somewhat independent and be able to be left alone for a few hours on occasion (our son plays sports and has other activities). Aside from that, we can make sure we stick to feeding schedules, provide backyard time, and short walks. (Our dog doesn't go far anymore these days, so we do shorter walks.) Chill, relaxed dogs with great house-training are welcome.
