Communicative Pet Caretaker

Pet care experience

I've been pet sitting for quite a few years, starting out with friends and expanding to friends of friends! With my work becoming fully remote, I have started travel pet sitting for people all over the country. I also enjoy pet sitting in my home base of Asheville, NC. My pet sitting experiences range from caring for an elderly pug to sitting a friend's mini-farm, complete with goats, chickens and livestock guard dogs! I love gardening and houseplants and am totally open to sharing my green thumb with any home that I sit. I also have experience caring for animals with medical needs, as my own German Shepherd suffered from EPI and a seizure disorder, which required daily medication. I also owned a Siberian Husky - and if you can care for a Husky, you can care for anything!

Katie was amazing! My husband and I were away for a week and she was in consistent communication with us with updates and pictures. Everything was so great when we came back home and our pup was clearly well taken care of. Nothing can replace that kind of peace of mind when you are out of town. I couldn’t recommend Katie enough!

Safety, trust & environment

When pet sitting in someone's home, I've found it helpful to meet with the owners before they leave, so we can discuss their expectations of a sitter and pet routine/needs, get a brief tour of the home and discuss any home needs/maintenance that may arise. Having an overlap and my arrival and the owner's departure also puts any pets at ease as well. If it is not an option to do a meet and greet in person, I'm open to video calls. When sitting in my home, meets and greets prior to the sit are always welcome. I prefer to have owner's drop their pets off, along with any items your fur baby will need during their stay!

Information Kathryn D. would like to know about your pet

I always like to know about a dog's personality - How are they with other dogs, children, cats, etc...Are they good leash walkers? Any special quirks that I need to be aware of? For dogs with medical needs, I always find it helpful to review their medications/diets/special care in detail.

A typical day

I'm an active person and love to take dogs on walks throughout my neighborhood in Asheville. I'm also a big hiker. If dogs enjoy hiking too, I'm open to taking them with the owner's permission.
