Your dog will be my first priority

Pet care experience

Hi, I'm Kathleen. I'm over 60, in great health, live an active lifestyle and love all animals, particularly, dogs! I have raised dogs, cats, birds, ducks, rabbits, chickens and horses and work often with the SPCA, specifically with traumatized dogs. I was elected President of the National Board of CT-TFT for practice with abused animals and have taught many adoptive pet parents how to work with their pets. I have always had a special compassion for dogs. My own Chihuahua recently passed away and I have missed her company very much. I have a nice home, fenced backyard and a sunroom with a doggie door when they want to go out, weather permitting. (It is for small dogs). My neighborhood is quiet and has a park and playground at the end of my block. I walk my dogs around the blocks and to the park often. There is a vet within 1 mile of my home as well if ever required. I take house broken dogs who have their current shots and are up to code, and are flea/tick and disease free only. I ONLY TAKE DOGS THAT ARE NOT TALLER THAN MY COFFEE TABLE AND NO COON HOUNDS. I work a lot out of my home and my last dog was a "therapy dog" who accompanied me when working with people who were afraid of dogs. I appreciate the opportunity to play with and care for your fur-baby and please know that he/she will be treated as if they were my own! About this sitter: I'm over 60, responsible and a business owner/ therapist/ life and divorce coach / mediator and I mostly work from my home. I have raised and taken care of many animals throughout my life time. I work with the SPCA and have for many years as a volunteer and do a particular therapy with abused and abandoned dogs/puppy mill dogs and those preparing to be adopted/and from rescue centers. To me dogs are truly a gift of love, devotion and forgiveness and can bring healing to those who are sad, ill and alone. I had a Chihuahua as a therapy dog for over 13 years and she was so wonderful in helping people heal on so many levels. Animals, and in particular dogs, will and do always, have an incomparable place in my life and heart. I appreciate the opportunity to love and care for your pet as if he/she were mine. Why I love dog sitting All of my life, our family has raised dogs, cats, birds and fish. We have raised ducks, rabbits, chickens, and horses. I have looked at animals as the species who teaches humanity about love, loyalty, devotion, forgiveness and helps us heal our hearts from grief and pain. I've worked with abused and abandoned dogs and have volunteered with the SPCA for the past 20 years. Throughout my childhood we raised AKC dogs but as an adult all of my dogs have been adopted from city adoption centers. My expertise as a Therapist is in a technique that clears emotional/mental and some physical issues that may be present in abandoned and abused dogs. That therapy is called The Callahan Technique of Thought Field Therapy (R). This therapy works by using specific "algorithms/recipes" by tapping on specific acupuncture points on a body while holding a specific thought. This results in the cellular release of held traumatic memories. It works for both people and animals clearing fears, phobias, love-pain, grief, traumas, PTSD and has a 78-98% Cure Rate. I have served as the President of the National Board of CT-TFT(R) for Animals and am 1 of 200 people in the world who is a licensed Instructor of this therapy. I am also an acupuncturist and can do Acu-massage for your animals as well. I have adopted two abandoned Chihuahuas over the years and trained my last one as a "therapy dog" in my clinical therapy practice. My dog recently passed away of old age and at this time in my life, I prefer sitting for others' animals when their parents are traveling. I continue to volunteer for adoption centers, the SPCA and work with dogs who are saved from puppy mills. I get to love and have another's "child" to care for and therapeutically help if needed. Meet my pets I have had a dog for the last 60+ years of my life and every home I have ever resided in is pet friendly. I use green products to clean the floors and any sprays out side are also pet friendly/natural. Presently I do not have a dog, but hope to care for yours while you are away. About my yard I have a fairly large back yard and is completely enclosed by a fence that is always locked. I also have a semi enclosed back porch. The porch has a carpet on the floor and several pieces of furniture that pets can sit on if they choose.

Miss Kathleen is a wonderful sitter! I think she spoiled my dog more than I do!

We have worked with Kathleen on numerous occasions and love her. Our mini schnauzer is a bit high strung and has some separation anxiety. Whenever she stays with Kathleen I don't even think she notices we're gone. She gets little massages & lots of loving. When we return to pick her up we get a full run down about what our little girl did the whole time, if there's anything we should be aware of or do for her, etc. It's also really nice that she go can to a nice home where she can move around freely & not be cooped up in a crate for days. When we pick her up, her demeanor is more calm. It's great peace of mind knowing that she's happy there & will be well taken care of. Thank you, Kathleen!!!

Kathleen Dean is one of the most conscientious and compassionate persons on the planet. Not only have I confidently entrusted my two fur babies with her, on several occasions, but their behavior was improved because of her kind attention. I have been so grateful for her care.

Information Kathleen D. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know if there are any specific health, mental or behavioral issues he/she may have. I must have a list of up-to-date shots/vaccinations. Your baby must be potty/house trained, (unless a puppy). Does your child have any specific toys, games he/she likes to play? Does your dog have a scheduled eating time? Is he/she on a specific diet or taking medications? What is your dog’s sleeping/walking/exercising routine? Do you allow your dog on furniture? Do they sleep in a crate/ or on the floor in their own bed or on the bed? I have no preference for a particular breed although my dogs have been a German Shepherd, Pomeranian, Chihuahuas, Poodles, Cattle Dogs (Australian Shepherds) and I raised Cocker Spaniels. I have consistently cared for a Pomeranian, Dachshund, Labrador, Boxer/Pit mix, Sheltie, poodles and a Schnauzer. I do well with all dogs/animals and love them all... and they love me! Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have concerning care.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks There is a beautiful park along a creek at the end of my block and many families and individuals walk their dogs up and down that area. My neighborhood also has long blocks that are great for walking a good distance. There is a school playground where people go as well to play with and train their dogs. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Your pet can sleep wherever you would like them to. My dog slept on the end on my bed or in a large chair in another part of my bedroom. If you prefer your pet to sleep in a crate, they certainly may do so as per our discussions. My home is completely pet friendly. Time I'll spend with your dog I work out of my house so for most of the day I will be with your pet. If I must leave, he/she will be in my kitchen area with their bed and toys. If I go to your home then I will be there for most of the day/night or a minimum of 3 times a day for walks, play-time and feedings. Each pet to me is an individual and receives care accordingly.
