Special care for special pets!

Pet care experience

Looking for a caring, reliable, knowledgeable sitter? I'm a former vet tech, and animals, and their care, have always been a part of who I am. I have worked as a certified veterinary technician in a mixed animal practice (5 years) and have gone through a Red Cross Pet CPR course. I am currently retired and thoroughly enjoying pet-sitting adventures through Rover.com. My own pets over the years have included dogs, cats, fresh-water fish, horses, a donkey, and a parrot. Let's meet to see if I am the right choice for your pets! Why I love pet sitting As the daughter of a veterinarian, a former veterinary technician, and a life-long animal lover; I have a wide range of knowledge and experience. I truly enjoy being with and caring for all types of animals; large and small, furred, feathered or finned, and would like the opportunity of finding out more of what you are looking for in a sitter for your special four-legged family member(s). I like pretty much anything with four legs and a tail, so I cannot call myself either a "dog person" or a "cat person" as I value both types of attitudes, behaviors and personalities. I have an affinity for not only dogs and cats, but also other types of animals; including rabbits, birds, some reptiles, some pocket pets, horses and other equines, llamas, alpacas, goats, and setting hens. My experience administering medication Yes, with my background in animal care I am more than willing and able to take care of pets with special needs or which require medication. I am also willing to utilize acupressure or massage techniques per your instructions. I am currently retired, so my schedule is generally very flexible. I am available most weekends and holidays, unless already scheduled for a stay. I can be available for stop by visits as early at 8:00 am and as late as 11:00 pm. I prefer to care for pets in the comfort and security of their own home where their normal routine can be maintained. A pets comfort and well being are, of course, the first priority.

Kat was absolutely wonderful with our two dogs, cat and three parrots. It was obvious that they felt extremely comfortable with her right away and it was very clear that she took excellent care of them. We will definitely be rebooking with her!!

Kat is the best for my beautiful fur babes when I can’t be there. So happy and grateful to have found her!

Kat was an exceptional sitter for my two pups. I am used to entrusting my parents or a friend and was nervous about leaving them. However, Kat walked me through the process for a seamless experience for myself and my two fur kiddos. She asked all the right questions and provided me with the best updates and photos throughout the stay. I will definitely call Kat again!

Safety, trust & environment

I believe pets are happiest and safest in their home environments following their usual routines. I like to see the environment you provide for your pet so I can do my best to follow your pets needs.

Information Kat A. would like to know about your pet

I am open to sitting with any breed; however, I do have reservations about being with the rare pet that demonstrates unwarrented or unpredictable aggression. My questions would include the following: Does the dog have any medical or behavioral challenges that will need to be managed? What type of activties is he/she used to and what is her/his normal day like? What does your dog do for fun or entertainment? What commands does your dog respond to and how do I get her/him to "come"? How does your dog react to thunder, strangers and other animals that we might encounter on a walk? What foods/treats are allowed or not allowed? Who is your dog's veterinarian & where are they located? If, due to an emergency such as fire or tornado, evacuation of your home should become necessary, where would you like your dog to stay? What have I not asked that you would like to tell me about your pet?

A typical day

Time I'll spend with your dog I enjoy playing games, such as fetch or "hide and seek" with dogs and interactive games with cats. I take an active interest in the health, happiness and well-being of your special friend. Tell me what your pet likes to do and what his/her normal routine is. My goal is for your pet to be as content as possible during your time away from home. I am not offering walks at this time, other than brief excursions for bodily needs. Extra house-sitting services Yes, I will do a variety of tasks that would be included in the quoted price including: bring in mail, inside plant care, etc. There are additional fees for more than one pet, which can be negotiated at the time of booking. Horses, goats, donkeys, alpaca, llama, chickens, rabbits, birds, fish, pocket or exotic pets: fees will depend on species and number of animals. Additional responsibilities can be negotiated for additional fees.
