Pet care experience
My name is Karissa. I am 24 years old, and a certified elementary teacher (currently working as a substitute teacher) looking to pickup part time work. I have experience with house sitting, overnight dog sitting/cat sitting, dog walking, and drop in animal care. I’m open to most requests, but am unable to board animals at my home. I am also open to caring for any and all animals, not just dogs. I currently have 2 cats and a very energetic 1 year old Mini Australian Shepherd, so I am very used to high energy pups! I enjoy being active, and am more than willing to walk/run/play with your pup depending on what you are looking for! I always prioritize the safety and well-being of pets when they are in my care. I follow any directions left by pet parents to ensure their animals are receiving consistent care. I am very respectful of any client home I do enter, privacy and professionalism are important to me with any job that I take. I also do my best to make sure your pets feel safe, comfortable, and are having fun while you are away, so that they can have a positive experience and build trust with others. Positive reinforcement is important to me and with permission, giving treats and rewards is how I like to cultivate relationships with animals!

Let me know if your animal has any special needs, or medication administration required ahead of time. It is also important for me to know if your dog is good with other people, other dogs, and children. Mostly for if I’m walking dogs then I can be aware of any potential triggers and avoid putting your dog in a bad situation. Also so I know how to interact with your dog when we first meet.
A typical day
I want to make the day fun and enjoyable for your pet so that they stay busy and entertained while you are away. If you have a fenced yard I like to get them outside and play with their favourite toys. I am very active so I am happy to walk/run dogs daily if they need more physical activity. I like to explore trails and parks nearby and get outside as much as possible, as long as weather permits and it is safe for your pup. However, I am also happy to stay at home with any animal that may be a bit older and/or wants to rest a bit more. For the less energetic animals they will still get lots of attention, I can brush your pets, or play with them indoors, or just snuggle up on the couch with them. It really depends on their personality and their needs and I will adapt my visit based on that!

Availability
As a substitute teacher I am working mostly part time and any hours I do work during the week are usually about 8am-3pm. I also have quite a bit of flexibility in my schedule and am able to book days off depending on other commitments I may have.
