Fenced In Country Yard Setting
Pet care experience
We are a mature couple who have enjoyed the company of pets all our lives. We live in the country with two fenced in yards. In February of 2019 we lost our beloved pet dog to health reasons who we had for 15 years. The last year especially we devoted our time to care for our dog in his declining state. This required much medical care and adapting him to a wheelchair. Pets are our family. Karen is CPR/first aid certified by the American Red Cross for Pets. We live on a private road with only two neighbors. We have miles of hiking trails and two fenced in yards attached to a barn and our home. We enjoy the company of dogs in the house and gardens. Its nice to bring joy to a pets life and being a part of that is important to us. Karen is always home with the dog(s) in her care. Steve works during the week and is home nights and weekends. All our dog guests are treated in a country family setting. Dog's enjoy watching Karen care for our ducks. All dogs are fed on their schedule and are fed separate. Even dogs from the same household are fed separately. The dogs enjoy the fenced in yards and the comfort of our home as if it were their own. All dogs boarded or in daycare here always enjoy our fenced in yards. Karen is always with them for supervision. Sometimes if we have more than one dog guests from different families we will have them play together only after being observed for good body language and behavior. Many of our dog guests are repeat guests and have developed bonds and relationships with other repeat dogs on previous stays. During the process of introducing new dogs to each other we have various gates we use throughout the house to separate dogs during the transition period of meeting a new dog. We take things very slowly and the safety and a positive experience to each and every dog is paramount to us. We have worked with many dogs who have experienced trauma in the past and it is important to us to make each dog become the most confident loving pup that knows that they feel safe with us during their stay.
Reviews
The first concern with any dog sitter is safety, and in this regard, the home of Karen and Steve is an example of safety consciousness that immediately impressed us. The home has two (!) spacious fenced outdoor areas for dogs to run and play. This was hugely important to us. The inside of the house is similarly equipped for a dog's safety and comfort. Easy access to the large fenced backyard, easily navigable steps, gated/partitioned areas...everything a thoughtful caretaker would have in his or her own home, perhaps even more so. Karen shared photos and short videos of our two dogs -- a 10-year-old and a 5-month-old -- throughout the day and evening. Communications were easy and frequent. And finally, Karen displays the warmth, knowledge and sensitivity to dogs' behaviors that everyone should have. This experience went from one of (understandable) nervousness on our part to one of complete comfort and delight!
So lucky I found Karen and Steve! They are such good people. Incredibly caring to dogs. Love all the photos and videos they send. Most of all, I’m impressed with how Karen slowly introduces dogs to each other and she is very aware of each dog’s behavior which ensures the safety of all the dogs. Well done, Karen and Steve! Whiskey and Ginger had a great time.
Karen and Steve were beyond our expectations!! The area for dogs for them to run is quite large and equipped with plenty of toys, but safely fenced in. They sent numerous picture and video updates throughout our dogs stay. We now trust them like they were our own ‘dog grandparents’, as they truly cared for our dog like it was their own. Our dog can be shy and nervous when meeting new people but they were patient and handled our pup like pros. We already can’t wait to bring our dog back. Would highly recommend and already excited to rebook!
Best sitters ever!

We have miles on wooded hiking trails literally right in our back yard. These trails have been used for horses, dogs, people. We also have two very large fenced in yards which dogs enjoy chasing chipmunks and squirrels. We have several fruit trees in the fenced in yard that dogs love to lay under. Animals have lots of wildlife to see: wild turkeys & deer often. Large open area for fetching and agility. Dog pools and stock tanks for cooling off.
