Karen’s Hound Haven

Pet care experience

**ALL DOGS NEED TO HAVE CURRENT FLU SHOTS** ** DOG'S MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED** We have also taken care of parrots, etc. Please read our entire profile all the way through for all necessary information. It should answer 95% of your questions. I am a retired high school, special education teacher, from MSD Lawrence Township Schools. I have loved dogs and all animals my entire life and have been pet sitting for people 45 years. Kaitlin was brought up with many animals and loves them, too. I stay home 24/7 all the time to care for your dogs. We do not take trips or vacations. I only attend funerals, or emergencies. You can trust Kaitlin to care for your pets, if I had to leave for a funeral or emergency! 🐕 My dog is Scotty. He’s a 6 years old West Highland White Terrier, who LOVES to play. He is our little ambassador who determines if your dog will pass the dog test. My daughter, Kaitlin, has Sirius Black, 15 months. He weighs 70 lbs. He loves to puppy play with any dogs. He has a high energy level. Sirius is loving, gives kisses and is a happy friendly dog! At first some dogs might get overwhelmed by his energetic personality, but eventually he settles down, as do other dogs. Once dogs come to stay here Sirius is calm and really settles down. Dogs just love playing with him. We are certified in CPR and First Aid training. We can give shots & medications. Your dog’s health is our greatest concern. We have had approved background checks. We have had 200 Customers, with a 5 star rating. We also have 100+ satisfied repeat customers. 🐺👌🐶🐩🐺 We NEED to have a 30 minute meet and greet 3-5 days prior to scheduling your dog to see if we are a good fit for each other. We need to see your updated veterinarian shot records. No last minute scheduling unless it is a REAL emergency, with explanation. Let us know right away if you are having an emergency. We can usually help you out. TIPS: Rover asks you if you want to leave a tip for hosts after your dog stay. This is new, since Spring, 2021. We hope that a tip would reflect our above and beyond expectations and/or special kindnesses for your dogs. Such as, providing extra food if you run out, hand feeding your dog most of the time because they are reluctant to eat, giving a bath if they get muddy from rain, taking care of your dog if they have diarrhea from being overly anxious. These things have happened. Our yard is shaded 90%. We have interactive toys to find the treat, using their paws! Outside we have a swinging ball on a Bungie cord, for the dogs to grab, pull and swing. It’s a big hit! We have a brand new steady doggie swimming pool in May 2022. It is big enough for 4-5 dogs. We drain and refill it frequently. We keep it on our upper deck so the dogs stay clean from the grass/ground. We are ALWAYS OUTSIDE with the dogs as they play and do their business. Dogs go out every 60-90 minutes, or more if the dogs stand at the door wanting to go out. Please have your dog wear their dog collars their name tags. We allow dogs on our furniture, (unless you specify that your dog isn't allowed on the furniture). We have laminate floors. We only have a large carpet in the family room so they don’t slide while they are puppy playing. 😀 TIP: PLEASE have your dog’s toe nails clipped to a shorter length. It’s helpful. We will send text messages of how your dog(s) are doing and send pictures. 👍😍 We will always be honest and tell you exactly what is going on here with your dog and the others, regardless if it is positive or negative, on our part or on the dog(s) part.👌 😀 We do not accept dogs who are: • American or Staffordshire Bulldogs (bad experiences) • not neutered or sprayed • who fight or bite or intimidate other dogs • have strong food aggression towards other dogs • not housebroken (poo or pee) • have very excessive, constant barking or whining • who are aggressive counter surfers • who constantly hump dogs or humans legs • who chew up property, furniture or household items If they destroy property, we will accept compensation for damages. We both will do our best to make sure your dogs don’t get into things they shouldn’t be doing. *So please be upfront about your dog’s behaviors at the meet & greet.* It would not be fair to make a booking with any one of these problems for your dog, other dogs visiting me or for us to have to deal with these difficulties. 👌 If you choose to book with me and hold back any of this information we will either: •Have your come pick up your dog • I am expected to write a review of your dog on Rover This unfortunately, has happened to us just recently with two very bad cases last summer! 🤨 For feeding, we use sanitary stainless steel bowls, in various sizes, in separate locations for your dog because their feeding & health is extremely important to us! Your dog will eat in a separate location so they will not be bothered. Grazers will have an opportunity to eat and re-eat their food after an hour until they are satisfied. Occasionally, we have had to hand fed several dogs because they were reluctant eaters. That’s one of those above and beyond scenarios. Cuddling is my favorite thing to do with your fur babies! Dogs enjoy sitting on my lap and looking out the window, watching TV or watching the actions of other dogs! 🥰 Each dog gets a special bright green colored collar to wear saying “I am on vacation, my sitter is Karen, with our Cellphone numbers.👍 We have a wicker basket full of toys. We have many dog beds, that we wash & sanitize. If your dog loves his own dog bed, please bring it along. TIP: Please send along your dog’s favorite treats, besides their food, which they are use to eating so they don’t have any upset stomachs. TIP: Bring extra dog food because sometimes you get delayed by airline flights or regular trips due to delays, weather, traffic & accidents, or deciding to stay away longer etc. This happens frequently. Please put your food in zipper containers or something that can be closed. Make sure you have your name written on your bag/container. No large plastic bags. Dogs can smell the food and can easily get into the bags! Thanks! 👍 At night the dogs sleep upstairs with me. If parents want their dogs crated, they should bring their own dog crate. I have several dog beds upstairs or they can sleep up on the bed with me! 😊 TIP: we use pet friendly ice melt in winter so it doesn’t hurt your dogs paws. Also, I have dozens of clean dog sweaters including raincoats, just for cold weather in all sizes!😃 We operate like a hotel. Daycare is $30 per day. 8am - 8pm Boarding overnight is $40 per night. Check-in: 3 pm and on. check-out: next day by 11 am, just like a hotel. *If you are staying later than 11 am, it becomes a daycare stay. Then you, the owner, must sign up for an extra daycare, separately.* Never extra charges for play time or one-on-one time. Clients who cancel their booking 3 days before their stay, will not be assessed a fee. If they do not, they will be assessed a cancellation fee from Rover. I will give one discount per visit for: Multiple dogs Senior citizens, 60+ Or extended stays, 3+ weeks. *Discounts do not apply during Holidays or Fall/Spring Breaks, due to heavy demand*. Dog Review: reviews are for how well I took care of your dog and my communications with you. It is not a commentary of how I decorate or what I wear. If you feel I did a good job dog sitting, would you please consider writing a review. Maybe a funny story that we had texted you about what your fur baby did or maybe some extra out of the way kindness that you appreciated. I hope we exceeded your expectations and your dog enjoyed their stay while in our care. I only take care of dogs, birds or other possible appropriate animals, in my own home. No cats. I have a very safe and friendly environment that my customers have been happy with for their dogs. We only take care of dogs inside our own home. We do not go to other people’s houses. Our services includes overnight boarding and daycare. We do not walk dogs because our yard is huge, 1/3 of an acre, and they have tons of fun running our large yard. I love watching the dogs play outside! Sincerely, Karen and Kaitlin 🐺🐕🐶 🐩 Last updated: August, 2022 I am retired and available at all times. We stick to a regular routine for getting up and going to bed. We also eat at the same time for breakfast and supper. You dog will go outside for potting and play every 0-2 hours We will take care of your fur baby just like they are our own! They will make great friends with our three dogs, Scotty, age 6 and Sirius, 20 months and Lucy, our new 12 pound puppy, who is 8 months old. They are all very friendly and fun loving. We will follow your care instructions perfectly, from eating, sleeping and going outside! I am home full time, so I am available to take care of and play with your fur babies day and night, just like you do. I have 3 wonderful, playful dogs that will provide your dog plenty of puppy playing! Since we vet all dogs, any other visiting dogs will get along, as well!

Karen was amazing with our dog! We needed a good sitter for an extended stay (almost an entire month) while we were visiting family in Europe. We are so glad to have found her. Karen was thorough, compassionate, and so loving with our dog. She sent us photos and written updates while we were away, so we always knew our dog was in good hands. I would recommend her to anyone who wants their dog to be in a loving, caring home. 5 Stars! Thank you Karen

Karen is so kind and was so extremely patient with our Peach. Peach has a lot of separation anxiety, and Karen was awesome in dealing with that. Karen really treats your pup like her own. We got lots of detailed updates and pictures. We will definitely use Karen again.

We love to stimulate your dogs minds physically and mentally with dog games inside and outside in the yard. I will throw balls and frisbees for their enjoyment. We have a huge baskets of toys in a variety of kinds that they will love. We put treats inside a large interactive game and they have to find their “cookie” treat! They just love it!
