Home Away From Home

Pet care experience

I know how difficult it can be to be away from your best friend. It’s never ideal when you have to put your pup in a kennel, you’re never really sure about how they’re doing. They give you so much love, you just want the best for them too. That’s why I’m here: to make sure that your furry friend is as happy as can be when you’re away! I will give your dog the same level of care and attention that I give my own dog! I love being able to help dogs thrive with all the happiness they need as well as give back to my community all at the same time...(I donate a portion of my fee to a dog charity) so--sit a pet ,save a pet. I’ve been a lifelong dog owner, ! I have taken several dog training and safety classes and try to stay up to date on the latest training and dog psychology information whenever I can. I’ve volunteered at animal shelters, which was a great experience! I love being able to provide for dogs in need. I’m also a retired Critical Care RN, so I have experience handling emergencies and can administer medication if needed as well. Currently, I’m the proud parent to a playful and lovable Golden Retriever named Hank and an African Grey Parrot named Tonga! When taking on a new client, I typically like to schedule a meet-and-greet. It’s a great way to make sure that we’re all a good fit for one another, which is so important to me. Likewise, it gives us the opportunity to chat face-to-face about your furry family member and your care expectations. No one knows your dog better than you do, so it’s always great to chat with owners in person about what makes their friend tick! Finally, I just love meeting new dogs! I like to get down on their level to show them that I’m a welcome presence here to make friends, and I’m sure we’ll be best buddies in no time at all. When your pup is under my care, my number one goal is to provide you and your pooch with a sense of comfort and safety. To me, the best way to do that is through excellent communication. It starts before the stay by getting as much information as I can about you, your pooch, and your care expectations. That way, I can start designing your pup’s dream stay as early as possible! When your pup is with me, you can expect regular updates with accompanying pictures, so you can see just how much fun we’re having together! I’m happy to keep owners up-to-date on anything from feeding times to exercise to behaviors.

Karen is amazing and takes great care of our golden retriever. She is loving and genuinely cares for our “little” guy. We wouldn’t want to leave him with anybody else!

Some things I like to learn ahead of time: Sorry--No Pitbulls --- I can offer Daycare on an OCCASIONAL BASIS----not long term Would you like to schedule a meet-and-greet before the stay? What’s your preferred method of communication? Does your pup have any health issues that need to be tended to? For instance, dietary restrictions, medicine, or behavior triggers? Do you have a vet nearby that you trust? Is your dog spayed/neutered? Does your pup like to stick to a given schedule, like regular walks in the morning and evening? What does your pup do well around? What does your pup try to avoid? What’s the best way to spoil your pup? Is your dog on a flea treatment? -----

A typical day

Now that I am retired, I do my best to maintain an active lifestyle. I love to get lots of walks, and Hank is all too happy to inspire me to get as much exercise as possible! That means that your pooch will definitely be the beneficiary of tons of walks and runs, or whatever it is that they need to thrive! There is a lovely trail behind my house that I love to go walking on, and I’m sure that your pup will just love getting out into nature and having fun out in the sun. I’m also happy to take on any couch potatoes! I have an enclosed patio with doggy door access so your pup can enjoy a little nap in the sun if need be. We’ll have a good time catching up on Netflix together!
