Pet care experience
I have loved dogs for as long as I can remember. As a child, we always had pets and when my kids were little we had many rescues over the years. I now live in a townhouse so haven't owned a pet for a while, but I am the first my family calls when they need a pet sitter. My adult son is in and out and will also be a source of care. When my older son graduated college, he was a Rover caregiver while looking for work. I always helped take care of his charges, which inspired me to do this now. You can feel confident that I will treat your dog as if he/she were my own. I am in a townhouse community. So I will walk your dog at least 4 times a day. The rail-trail is in my backyard and I'm close to Ilinois Mountain and Franny Reese Park. I work from home two days a week, which allows me to care for your pet Friday through Sunday. My calendar will only show availability from Friday to Sunday, but if you need to do a drop-off on Thursday, I can likely accommodate, just inquire. I will only care for one pet at a time. I have two floors and a back deck, but any dog in my care will need to be leash walked.

Kara is the best! Pancake loves going to her place and relaxing in a sunbeam.
We booked Kara to keep our dog for two days, and she was very communicative, welcoming, caring, and responsible. We loved getting some photos and updates during the stay. She and our dog became fast friends. We would definitely book her again!
Sorry for the very late review but it's very fresh in my mind still.... I had been driving back from Michigan to NY. There was an extremely bad ice storm in NY and it was taking longer then expected. I was feeling very rushed to get her in the unsafe driving conditions. My dog is extremely strong and pulls on the leash, on an ice covered ground that equals falling for sure. I had mentioned how badly the ice was accumulating on the ground and asked that she please lay some salt before I got there. When I arrived EVERYTHING was covered in THICK ice. When I got there she sprinkled a little cup on her front door landing ONLY. Mind you, this is a multi home location which includes a walk from parking lot to a sidewalk and all the way down that sidewalk to the end to get to her house. She literally handed me my dog and dogs belonging through a cracked open door(never once fully opening the door)and then shut the door and left me to struggle to get it all to the car. Definitely felt like she couldn't wait to get rid of my dog. She did mention at one point that I could purchase another night if I wanted but also made it clear she would much rather her picked up that night. Personally I would never want ANYBODY driving in those conditions but to her defense she did ask if we made it home ok later. A little patience, HELP and consideration would of went a VERY long way. I ended up with a twisted ankle and I have no idea how my dog didn't get hurt since she kept falling on her hips as well. SALT needed to be laid down as I specifically asked or to reschedule pickup during a more safe time.
Kara sent daily photos and updates. She administered medicine to our senior dog and took great care of her. Our dog had such a good time that she didn’t want to leave! I wouldn’t hesitate to ask Kara to watch our dog again.

Information Kara M. would like to know about your pet
It's important that they can walk on a leash. And, if they don't like other dogs, I just need to know that since there are a number of dogs in my community. If your dog needs any special grooming or medication, I'm comfortable providing what he needs.
A typical day
I'm close to lots of local hiking spots like Franny Reese, Illinois Mountain, Roosevelt Farm Lane Trail and lots of others. I like to hike so if your dog is active, I can give him lots of exercise. If your dog is more passive, I'm happy to just give him lots of attention and love.
