Must Love Dogs

Pet care experience

Dogs have always played an important role in my life. Everyone in my family has had dogs from Shih Tzus, to German Shepards, to mutts of all shapes and sizes! I was routinely tasked with checking in on them during vacations, helping out with walks, and taking them into my home for babysitting sessions. When I was in college I would watch my professors dogs over breaks and would always get teased by my peers for never babysitting humans! I have even dog-walked full-time in New York City. I have varied experience with a wide range of breeds and care settings. I'm currently based in DC and am available relatively full-time. I have had a dog of my own for three years now and she will be present in the home for daycare and overnight stays.

Safety, trust & environment

Our dog has the rule of the roost at our house! Our home is set up in a very dog-friendly way in order to accommodate her having access to pretty much every area of our home. We are not super strict about dogs being on the furniture and truly want them to be as close as they are comfortable at all times. We have stairs to our bedrooms and to the finished basement as well as a fenced in yard (city yard, quite small.) In your home, it's your rules, so please be specific about where your dog has access to or if there are accessibility specifics I should know about. During a daycare stay, dogs get full roam of the first floor (living room, kitchen) with backyard access every hour. Walks are midday, unless specified otherwise. We have lots of toys and encourage you to keep yours at home unless they are a comfort for your pet in a new space. Our dog will always be present for daycare, so if your dog requires a single dog house, please do not book daycare with us! During an overnight stay pups get access to the second floor where the dog beds are kept. Our room door is kept open. We accommodate dogs who want to be close or far based on their comfort level, while keeping them within a safe range. A late night potty break before bed is usual, and keeping them on the same floor as us minimizes accidents since I can get up quickly if I hear them being restless. If your dog sleeps in a crate we will set it up in the guest room next to ours. If for any reason both my partner and I need to leave the home at the same time the dogs will be separated in our absence. Morna stays upstairs in our room with the doors closed and your pup have full run of the downstairs they are accustomed to. We will never leave a dog in a crate while our dog is in the same space free-roaming. When possible we take our dog with us on short trips, she enjoys car rides! We do not take our dog to people-centric public locations unless we are positive we have ample space for our dog to be a dog! If your dog enjoys car rides please let us know and we will bring them along as well, so long as you are comfortable. Places we do not bring our dog include; the grocery store, restaurants or bars, busy streets with narrow sidewalks and lots of traffic (if we can avoid it, it is a city!), spaces they are not allowed like school yards, playgrounds, or any park that is not fenced in like a traffic roundabout. If we are walking your dog, location limits where we can go. We want your dog to remain stress-free and in their routine. Smaller dogs also have a lot more privileges in people-centric spaces versus our 50lb lab mix! Please let us know what your dog loves and how much we can include them!

Information Kalei B. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog is on any medications if your dogs have any health issues or behavioral issues. Is your dog triggered by certain noises? Are they good around other dogs or children? Do they come when called? What's their stamina; trot around the block or trail dog? Do they have a specific release word for certain commands? No breed preferences.

A typical day

Walks will be around the neighborhood and to the arboretum or Congressional Cemetery if the dog/situation allows. If there is a preferred open-air area that you take your dog to I can accommodate, we can discuss further before booking! I leave it up to you to let me know the activity level of your dog, we can leisurely stroll, jog, hike...I'm very active and can keep up with your pup! If I am visiting your home for a drop-in or walking your dog for the day, my dog will never be present, rest assured!

I work full-time with a flexible schedule. My partner works from home full-time. Morna, our dog, gets a walk three times a day, so we are accustomed to early mornings, mid-day, and evening walks through the neighborhood. We plan one long, off-leash outing a week in a dog-friendly and safe location. Morna is beep-collar trained and has excellent recall, we are very strict about recall training and will never unleash your dog unless we are 1000% positive they will recall with us. We are happy to add your pup to our schedule! I have the most flexibility since I have my own vehicle and can zip around DC quickly and efficiently.
