Wooded trails and creeks to swim in

Pet care experience

I have a certification in Cat and Dog First Aid from the American Red Cross. I have over 20 years of experience with dogs, cats, horses, chickens, goats, cows, sheep, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, pigs, and fish! I have rescued and fostered dogs (and cats, and horses, and even one chicken that we named Pumpkin and let sleep in the house!) so I have experience with a wide variety of ages and personalities. I live on a couple hundred wooded acres and I take long trail walks every day - rain or shine! There are creeks to play in, swimming holes, hills to run, trails to track, squirrels to chase….muddy paws are no big deal at my house! I have a pool for when its hot, tons of toys, and a tiny creek that runs through the yard for playing in. Cats are welcome here, too! I have a room set up for cats only. I have a secure, fenced yard off the back porch and when the weather is nice I leave the door open so pups can play in the yard or hang out on the porch. I also have 2 acres that is fenced for supervised play. Walks in the woods are leashed walks unless you give me permission to let your pup off-leash (your pup will wear a gps tracker for added safety). We take lots of field trips - to Shelby Farms and other dog parks, to carline, to dog-friendly stores for treats, when we visit friends, etc. I have seatbelts and harnesses, I bring lots of water, and I carry a dog first aid kit in the truck. We love adventures! (If you don’t want yours to go out and about with us, please let me know.)

Julie is by far the most considerate and caring person we’ve met! She cares so much for our sweet cat, Jolene, and always goes above and beyond to help her and us!

This is the second stay for my senior pups and it was a long one due to back to back work trips. I never had to worry they weren't carefully and lovingly cared for-- Julie is wonderful!

Boarding: We consider the dogs that stay with us part of the family. Dogs are welcome on the couches and beds here, and I have an assortment of dog bed options in each room. Each dog has a designated crate or pen that’s their own with a comfy bed, water, and this is where (and only where) they get chews. I have antlers, cow hooves, yak cheese, bones…please let me know if there is something you don’t want yours to have or something special that they love. At night, your pup can choose where to sleep. I have a California king size bed for a reason and that’s usually where we all end up. I have a couple dog beds in my room as well.

Information Julie M. would like to know about your pet

Our house revolves around dogs - we have two of our own and we also foster. Our house is busy - we play hard (but always supervised) and we don’t mind getting dirty. Sometimes it’s loud and sometimes it’s rowdy. Our daily hustle and bustle could be overwhelming to a nervous nelly or a shy-guy senior, but we have a lot of fun and I love watching the timid ones come out of their shells - romps in the woods have the obvious physical benefits, but they help a dog build their confidence, too. I have had pups come here that were too nervous to walk up the front steps but after a few days (if that!) they were leaping over logs and climbing hills and swimming. BOARDING - I require a copy of vaccination records for every dog and cat that comes to my house (boarding and day care). - Your pet needs to be current on their flea/tick medication as we spend a lot of time in the woods. -Please have a collar on your dog that has a current rabies tag and a tag with your contact information. -Please inform me of any dietary restrictions - I keep an assortment of antlers and raw bones to chew on, and I like to keep a pocket full of treats. So I need to know if there is something you don't want your pup to have. - Please pre-measure and pack each meal in separate labeled ziploc bags. This ensures you pack enough food for the stay. - Please label any food, treats, supplements, or medications with the name, dosage, and time of day it's given. - You do not need to send bowls; I have plenty of stainless bowls that I run through the dishwasher’s sanitize cycle. -I have plenty of beds, crates, toys, etc, so you don’t need to pack anything else unless you just want to send something familiar from home.

A typical day

Exercise is what we love the most - the dogs love exploring all the burrows along the creek bed! I welcome the high energy bois here! We do a lot of outdoor exploring and playing. Sometimes we do tracking games, I have puzzle toys, treat balls, lots and lots of toys, and a playground is coming soon. ,tracking. My goal is that everyone sleeps well while they are here. I often have helping hands with me - my daughters help at home and sometimes they come along for walks and drop-ins. They are 9 and 11 and they love pitching in. They know when to give attention and when to give an animal some space, and they are professional cuddlers. On the other hand, we completely understand and respect that every pet and every household is different, so if you aren’t comfortable with me having tag-alongs on home visits or walks, just let me know :) When I do drop-in visits, I don’t like to rush in and rush out. We will play or cuddle or whatever it is I am there to do, and when I can I will often I spend extra time going over my calendar, etc just so your pet isn’t alone. Especially when it comes to shy cats - they almost always eventually come out and investigate if I stick around and quietly update my planner or draw etc.

I am in school part time and attend classes on campus a couple days a week for part of the day. Daycare is Saturday, Sunday, and Monday only. We are up around 5 for breakfast and then playtime outside. If I don’t have class we take a long walk. Then lunch and rest, and then in the afternoon another long walk in the woods or on a field trip to a dog park. Then it’s dinner, a rest time, and then back out to the play yard until it’s dark. Then we come inside and they have the run of the living room until everyone is ready for bed. We spend pretty much all day outside, but I schedule in breaks periodically for rest and regrouping. If the group gets too rowdy, break time.
