Pet care experience
Hi, I'm Julia! Here is a bit about me My History: I've had dogs my whole life, and I got into pet care through Rover when I lived in LA in college studying cognitive science. I missed having dogs in my life and figured it was a good way to fill that paw shaped hole! This was in 2018, and it quickly changed my life's path. I reached the end of undergrad in 2020 and realized I couldn't stay away from working with dogs, but I also loved social psychology, behavior and cognition. With dog training I could combine my two passions. I moved to San Diego and went on to work with service dogs for a year and a half, gaining outdoor kennel and high level training experience. While I loved that training, I wanted to learn more about all kinds of dog training. Qualified by my 400+ hours experience training, I went on to sit for an exam by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, earned my CPDT-KA and went into pet dog training. I now have been in pet training since November 2021, doing mostly obedience and early development socialization (mostly dogs under 2). I also compete and train in dogs sports with my two. My border collie and I compete in frisbee dog, barn hunt, agility and do lots of trick training. My small dog knows so many tricks, and she likes barn hunt and nose work. My real passion is having fun with dogs- getting them to open up and play, trust, feel confident and accomplished, and dog sports are an AMAZING way to get to do this. Now that I know SO much more about dogs, have met so many breeds, and trained so many individuals and their humans, I am in a place where I would like to get back on Rover and work with more dogs in my free time! Me as a Pet Sitter: Each dog is so unique and I genuinely love all the characters I get to meet, and I treat them with the utmost respect and love, as I treat my own dogs. I am known to have a very calming presence and demeanor, so even anxious dogs warm up to me pretty quickly. Keeping your dog as comfortable and happy as possible is my goal. I have taken coursework in canine body language and stress signals, as well as canine emotion and cognition so I am very good at reading dogs and determining the course of action best for the dog in front of me. I also am familiar with the quirks specific to some of the bigger personalities/higher energy level dogs (herding breeds, bulldogs, retrievers, pointers, boxers, pits) which helps me be proactive in preventing any further stress for your dog while they are away from you. I have a lot of experience with herding breeds and I love that working dog joie-de-vivre! I also know how to work with strong personalities, like assertive dogs and rule benders. From my experience, I have learned how to love them and have fun with them while keeping everything under control (and positive!).

Boarding or Daycare: I have 2 young adult female dogs that your dog must be okay with. We will need to arrange a meet and greet before, where they can meet in a neutral area off leash. My dogs are fairly neutral towards other dogs, and will play once the have known another dog for a while. They don't love pushy or clumsy breeds because they want their space to be respected. Mellow personalities are best! While I am out of the house (boarding only) my two dogs will either be crated or I will take them with me. I will never leave my resident dogs loose with a visiting dog while I am not there, just as a best practice. Your dog can stay loose in my home if they can handle that, crated, or confined to a safe area. Please let me know your preference. Walks or Drop-In: I can follow whatever instruction I am given for entry into your home in order to care for your dog. If I'm not sure about something- I will ask because I always want to make sure we are perfectly clear so that I can meet your expectations and give your dog what they need! I provide more than your average dog walker, because I know so much about behavior and have so much training hundreds of dogs leash walking. I can focus on different skills or problem behaviors your dog has on leash, and instead of just ignoring them. Your dogs walk can be focused on developing whatever skills they really need, whether it be barking at other dogs, ignoring the person holding the leash, chasing lizards, sniffing too much, pulling too hard, etc. I do all of this force free of course, and I am happy to record video each walk so you can see exactly what we are doing. I am happy to use treats or toys with your permission of course! Alternatively- we can just have a no expectations walk or a sniffari! Whatever your dog needs to feel good :) Walks like this that engage the dog in working on a skill are much more tiring than a normal walk. They are both using their brain and getting exercised! This is much more fulfilling for the dog and ultimately keeps them happier. It makes walks fun for them, and fun for me!

Information Julia W. would like to know about your pet
I would like to know is their activity level and how they are with other dogs/people. How many times they go out in a day normally, and how/where they sleep at night. Just a rundown of your routine and the major events and activities your dog does during their day, so I can help provide something close to that for them. And of course anything else you think I should know!
A typical day
I believe in giving all the dogs individual one on one time, so they will get at least one walk with just me each day, and with my dogs otherwise. I can provide whatever is requested in terms of exercise for your dog, whether that be a long walk, a run, fiesta island, a visit to the park for some fetch, as long as you can give me a good description of how your dog will typically react in these scenarios. I will never let your dog off leash in an unfenced area even to play fetch- I have many light but long training leashes that I will use in these scenarios instead of being fully off leash. Your dog's safety is the most important.
