Blue Bear Pet Services

Pet care experience

Hello my name is Julia and I welcome you to my pet services. I believe that creating a fun, loving, and comfortable living space for a furry, scaly, or feathery family member is key to having a happy pet. My main goal is to provide what suits each individual animal specifically to make him or her feel right at home. I offer in and out home pet care sitting as well as, dog walks, pet transportation, and check-ins. (Currently only taking dog walks and check ins, due to covid). A few years ago, after taking my loved one to a kennel my family and I returned only to realize that my pup was clearly abused. Cuts engulfed his neck sliced by a tight slip lead. The lack of respect and responsibility distributed by the kennel that will not be named only made my love for animal rights grow. I had made animals my priority long ago as a child, but as I grew older I realized that labeling it as a priority was too cold of a word but rather they were and remain my passion. Being vegan the motto that I live by is Ahimsa; Ahimsa is a Sanskrit word meaning it is the principle of nonviolence and compassion towards all living things. With that being said, I make it my mission to love every animal that is in my care as if he or she were my own. My first job was at a pet store and I was able to climb the ladder up to manager, but truthfully my favorite part of my job was being the animal care specialist. Here I learned, then taught others how to care for fish, reptiles, small animals, and even birds (still working on them). I was with the company for over three years, but I wanted to take the passion I have to the next level so I became a vet tech. Becoming a vet tech was one of the most emotionally draining, yet rewarding positions I have ever had. Throughout high school I volunteered at Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook. Before becoming a volunteer it is mandatory to take dog training courses to ensure the dogs' and your own safety when walking and socializing them. This is where I learned basic dog training, especially helpful for more dog aggressive, toy/treat possessive dogs. The shelter’s cat room only reinforced my love to cuddle with kitties, still valuable in it’s own way, right? All jokes aside, I hope my passion for animal care has become a little more apparent hopefully putting you at ease during this stressful decision making of who to trust with your babies. The core reason I have this business is to save enough money to move to Washington State to open my very own animal sanctuary. The goal is to have the dream of Blue Bear Animal Sanctuary: Home to the Domestic, Exotic, and Wild become a reality. To answer the questions behind the name “Blue Bear”, the reasoning is very dear to my heart. Blue was the name I had chosen for a dog I fell in love with at a shelter, unfortunately I was not old enough at the time to get him before it was too late for him. I carry his name with me to a place that I would strive to better the lives of various creatures, a legacy if you will. As for Bear, that is my puppy boy’s name. A dog that has not only bettered my life but has bettered me as a person. I can’t wait to hear from you and your loved one(s) please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions.

Julia is wonderful! The second time I brought my dogs to her home, they were so excited to see her, they ran up to her front door wagging their tails. Our big boy is 100 pounds while the little one is only 14 pounds and they were both equally happy to be there. Dogs can sense things about people and, according to my dogs, Julia is one of the good ones.

This was the first time we boarded our dog, and we were nervous at first. However, Julia's love for animals was apparent from the moment she met Willow, and her background as a vet tech. gave us extra piece of mind.

Julia was so awesome. I admit being a little concerned about multiple dogs being there but it turned out to be perfect, and just the right socialization experience my 8month pup needed. Julia has such a great way with animals and new dog owners, bringing confidence to all. My kids also enjoyed and looked forward to Julia's frequent photos which we called "pupdates" !

I have a file for each pet that is in my care, on said file I ask parents questions to better understand the needs of their fur babies and to ensure I’m meeting each expectation a parent has for me. My job is to make your life easier and to put you at ease when you can’t be there for your little one yourself.

Information Julia R. would like to know about your pet

It’s important for me to know whether your dog is reactive to people, other dogs, or even noises. If they are a puller or have a high prey drive and enjoy chasing critters please inform me. I want to ensure their safety and the safety of any other animal that may come across our path.

A typical day

I prefer going to specific parks or trails but am more than happy to walk in your neighborhood if that’s what is requested. I also have several interactive toys for high energy dogs that need to run around to get some energy out.
