Pet care experience
I've lived with dogs since I was born, and have pet-sat for family and friends on and off for the past 10 years! I've watched everybody from puppy pomeranians to rescue corgis, persnickety kitties and mastiff mixes with very little concept of personal space. I have a special place in my heart for mutts of all sizes and pit mixes. I'm so excited to get to love on your fur children as if they were my own!

Julia did a wonderful job caring for my two cats, stopping in each morning to feed, play with and give my kitties some loving. She checked in every day and let me know how things were going. It was a nine-day trip, so I was worried about leaving them with someone else for so long, but when I walked in the door, I saw that they had been well taken care of. Thanks, Julia.

Julia visited our cat daily while we were on vacation for a week. Her attention to detail and comments on his welfare on a daily basis with photos was great. Her access to him was through our garage door utilizing a garage door opener. The door hung up on one of her visits due to one of the door cables coming off. At the time, she was unable to get in touch with me (my fault). She got the door down herself under very difficult conditions, showing incredible character and resourcefullness. We were able to give her alternate access the next day, but not before she exhibited the ability and willingness to tackle and solve the problem with no immediate support. I would prefer to not have animals in my home at this time. However, I have consistently lived with dogs and in NoVA I'm sharing my space with two large rescue dogs. I also enjoy walks and the occasional trail run, so I'm familiar with dog-friendly parks in the area and can take active dogs on longer hikes to get some energy out if families are comfortable with my transporting their furchildren.
Information Julia K. would like to know about your pet
I have no specific breed requirements, but would like to know a dog's general history as well as energy levels and typical routine to make sure that I can accommodate their needs and plan things into my schedule. For cats or other pets, I just want to know what their "normal" is. I prefer to meet all furchildren and their humans before booking stays to make sure it's a good fit for everyone.
A typical day
I am a big fan of both neighborhood walks, as well as trail runs and moderate hikes around the area. I'm happy to take well-behaved dogs on hikes, runs, or bike rides (once I have a solid read on the dog's temperament and energy levels, and with permission from their humans). If more quiet or senior dogs/cats are comfortable laying low, I have a very large capacity for snuggles or hanging around to help animals feel a little less lonely.
