loving shelter volunteer & photog

Pet care experience

Hi there - my name is Joyce and I would absolutely love to care for your pet! I am a law student at UCI Law, originally from O'ahu, Hawai'i via New Jersey and Boston. I have done Rover for a few years now and have loved every moment. It is my part-time passion project! I have particularly enjoyed building long-term relationships with my repeat clients. I became the doting dog and cat aunt for my neighbors’ pets and I hope to continue to do the same here. The love and patience that I bring in my care for animals largely stems from my time working with rescues as a shelter volunteer. I was honored to have met and loved so many radiant personalities in an otherwise difficult place. While they were of all different shapes, sizes, and backgrounds, they shared a joy and resilience that continues to inspire me. It was so fulfilling to build deep connections with each rescue, and assist in their rehabilitation and training as our team worked to find them a forever home. I am flexible in my care, so whether it’s chilling in the comfort of home with lots of pats and snuggles, going on long strolls around the neighborhood, or taking on an outdoor adventure full of high energy exercise and play -- I would be more than happy to accommodate to ensure happiness and comfort. I look forward to meeting you and your furry family member!

We booked Joyce a few times and couldn’t be happier with the exceptional care that our fur dogs received. She kept our house clean and tidy, but also provided impeccable attention to our high energy puppy and cherished our senior dog. We appreciated all her daily updates of photos and videos! We were concerned about finding someone who can keep up with our puppy’s playful spirit and we know that our puppy can still be a challenge, but Joyce instantly put us at ease. Both of our dogs seem genuinely happy and we are so glad we found someone who is patient and understanding to their unique needs! Thank you for being an invaluable part of our furry family’s lives and can’t wait to book your services again in the future.

This is the second time we’ve had Joyce watch our dogs while we went on vacation and she always does such a great job with keeping the dogs company and sending us frequent updates. We can always trust her fully!

Joyce is an excellent sitter, who is very caring and attentive. She gave us thorough updates, and was able to handle our sometimes rambunctious doggos! We will definitely have joyce look after them in the future!

Joyce was amazing! From start to finish she was always professional and responded in a timely manner. She sent us detailed updates with tons of pictures. We could tell how much our dog enjoyed her company and always felt assured he was being well taken care of during our one week away from home. Would highly recommend!!!

** Services ** Currently, my client list for House Sittings is full and I'm only taking clients for drop in visits. I offer only (1) House Sitting and (2) Drop In services because I’ve found that pets are more comfortable in their own homes, especially when undergoing the stressful event of being left behind on a family trip. House sittings are typically overnight stays in your home. This is my default expectation unless the sitting is booked for the day time, or requested otherwise. ** Home Care and Logistics ** I am respectful of people's space and aim to leave your home better than when I arrived. During our meet and greet, I ask that we go over where your pet’s belongings are, and for House Sittings, general living logistics. For longer stays, I've also done some housekeeping (e.g. bringing in the mail, watering the plants, etc.) to help maintain the space while you’re away. ** COVID Update ** I am fully vaccinated and up to date with my boosters. I am generally cautious and ask that we maintain open communication to best protect each other's families and communities!

Information Joyce C. would like to know about your pet

- Personality, demeanor, energy level - Schedule (walks, food, favorite activities) If Applicable: - Behavioral quirks (e.g. hiccups, sneezing, etc.) - Preferences in social interactions with other dogs/people - Training reinforcement - Medication (I have oral medication experience for both dogs and cats, and have administered eye drops and inhalers. I am open to learn more if needed).

A typical day

I love the outdoors and lead an active lifestyle. I particularly enjoy running, rock climbing, and yoga. I have a plug-in hybrid hatchback and would love to take your pup on an outdoor adventure! Please let me know if your dog particularly enjoys any local parks, beaches, or trails in your neighborhood too. I grew up in a family of big "walkers", so if your pup is on the chiller side, gentle afternoon and evening strolls to simply enjoy the air and nature together would be super fun!

FAQ ** The Process ** After I receive your request on Rover, I will confirm my availability and assess our general fit based on your pet’s profile. Please let me know of any special needs your pet may have at this time. I offer free meet and greets (in-person or virtual on short notice and depending on the booking) to ensure that we are a good fit. We'll discuss care and logistics during this meeting. Afterwards, we can proceed with booking. ** Scheduling and Availability ** For Spring 2024, I attend my classes in-person and will need to be on campus for 5-6 hour periods at a time. Please let me know if your pet would appreciate my sustained companionship (COVID separation anxiety for pets is real!), or if they have special needs during the day that would interrupt a standard work from home setting. We can discuss options to make sure we’re a good fit.
