Bookworm Learning Voraciously

Pet care experience

My first Covid-19 vaccine dose was March 30, my second shot was on April 20th. I still use my favorite washable cloth face masks. For two years I've been hands-on taking care of horses, for over six years I've had a dog in my family. Interwoven in that time, I've spent seven years self-studying, seeking knowledge about animal psychology, mainly horses but also branching out into dogs and cats. Obviously they are all different, but there is enough overlap to where I know how frustrating it is to these animals when humans ignore their body language and don't know how to accommodate their instincts and deeply-entrenched learned reflexes, whatever those might be. Brute-forcing authority on these magnificent animals makes for miserable animals, instead I know how to communicate by watching their body language and adapting my body language to theirs. With the communication thus described and knowledge of proper care and an environment set up to meet the animal's needs, thus I can earn an animal's respect, training the animal and adjusting the environment to live harmoniously with humans.

Information Joley W. would like to know about your pet

The first two questions I'll want to know are: Is your dog allergic to anything? Does your dog come when called? Most of my questions will pertain to personality, for puppies under one year old I will also be asking development-related questions. Is your dog afraid of anybody or anything? Does anybody or anything trigger your dog's aggression? What excites your dog? Does your dog do anything to let you know he or she needs to go potty? For puppies under one year old: Will I be taking care of puppies not yet weaned? Where is your puppy on the potty-training progress spectrum? How is your puppy being potty-trained (if old enough to start learning)? Is your puppy teething? If so, what teething relief do you use? What kinds of people, objects or concepts in the world does your puppy need introductions or exposure to in order to grow up into a well-adjusted dog?

A typical day

If there happens to be a reputable dog park within walking distance of a given dog's home, if I know where to find the dog park, and if the dog is nice with other dogs, I will gladly take the dog there. If the dog already has toys at home, I can find a way to use them as I play with the dog. As for walks, I guess there's a high chance the dog will be familiar with his or her own neighborhood. I can watch and see where the dog wants to go and negotiate the route from there, making accommodations to the dog's preferences when reasonable to do so, steering the dog away from where I feel unsafe, and backtracking as necessary to make sure I don't lose track of the dog's home. I have been able to coax a dog reluctant to eat by transferring her kibble from her bowl to one of her toys designed to let food fall out a little at a time as the dog rolls it around. Did you know that lapdogs can ride on King County buses for no extra charge? Larger dogs can also ride on buses for a fee. Don't just take my word for it, look it up on the King County Metro website and see for yourself. If you think your dog can behave nicely on a bus and you want me to take your dog on a bus to somewhere, let me know and we can discuss the logistics while reviewing the bus rules.
