Guiding Eyes Puppy Raiser

Pet care experience

I'm currently raising my 3rd service puppy with Guiding Eyes For The Blind. Jude and I regularly attend training classes, go on a variety of socialization outings, and practice the different skills and behaviors that a guide dog will need to have. It's been a lot of hard work, but such a rewarding experience. I've learned so much about being a dog trainer, and the bond formed with a service dog in unlike any other. He is my teammate and best friend, and we will have to say an emotional goodbye at the end of our journey together. Prior to this, I fostered a dozen or so rescue dogs for Homeward Trails. As such, I have experience working with all different breeds, sizes, personalities and energy levels. I moved over to the Homeward Trails cat foster team a few years ago. They always give me the dog friendly/tolerant cats, but space can be gated off if your pup becomes a little too interested. I work from home 4 days a week, have a fairly flexible schedule and always make time for doggie exercise during the day. Jude is looking forward to many play dates, pack walks, park romps and afternoon naps with your pup. He may even show him or her a thing or two about guide dog training! I'm jumping into the Rover business for a couple of reasons. First, to help offset the out-of-pocket fostering and service dog expenses. This is a volunteer gig and despite the tax deduction, pet food, toys, supplies and mileage add up. Second, to give Jude more experience working around different dog distractions. He has an important job ahead of him and will need to maintain focus on his handler. If our mission is something that you'd like to support, please consider partying at our place. Cheers!

John provided excellent care for my dog, Liza. She has separation anxiety and John was very good at putting her at ease. He kept me updated with messages and pictures throughout her stay. Highly recommended!

John was great with Haans! And Haans was so happy to have made a new kitty friend. It's been his goal for forever! :) Haans came home happy because he'd gotten lots of activity throughout the day. I definitely recommend John.
