Trustworthy, timely, & enthusiastic

Pet care experience

About me: I am a 22 year old college student who is currently working from home. I have grown up in a house where I’ve always had pets. I currently have a black lab named Rudy and three cats: Tinkerbell, Mitts, and Kujo. In the past I’ve had 2 dogs at once, including a pit bull with 3 legs. I also used to have a couple fish and a bearded dragon, so I’m comfortable caring for scaled pets too. I also used to volunteer at Cape Ann Animal Aid when I was in middle and high school. Boarding (at my house)/Day Care: Dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome to board at my house. I am currently working from home, so I will be able let them out to use the bathroom in my yard whenever they need to go. For dogs that are staying at my house, I would plan on walking them 2x per day. I have a 12 year old black lab named Rudy that I like to take on hour-hour and a half long hikes through Ravenswood every afternoon. We normally cover about 2-3 miles in that time, depending on the loop we take. I would be able to pick different loops depending on the energy level, age, and size of individual dogs. I would likely go to Ravenswood for one long walk in the afternoon, and offer a shorter walk in the morning. The shorter walk would likely last about 30 minutes to an hour. I could walk them around my neighborhood or I may go to Stage Fort Park and the Gloucester boulevard. I am also comfortable bringing dogs to the beach if they like to swim; I can bring towels to dry them off after. I normally feed my dog around 7am and again between 3-4pm, but I can accommodate other feeding schedules as well. My dog takes a few oral medications on a regular basis and has needed me to administer a few shots over the years, so I am very comfortable with administering medications to pets. As long as you provide me with the medication list, time of day they take each medication, and how they take it (ie: wrapped in cheese, in peanut butter, or via shot) I’ll make sure they get what they need. We have some toys for medium to large dogs, but small dogs may want to bring their own toys to use during play time. I also used to have a 3 legged pit bull named Milo, so I understand some dogs may need some extra help going up and down stairs or even just standing up from laying down. We also have ramps to help older dogs or dogs who need extra help getting in and out of my car. House Sitting/Check ins: For house sitting and check ins, I am comfortable with caring for all types of pets. I grew up caring for several dogs and cats. I also had a couple fish and a bearded dragon for a little while. Whether you pet has hair, fur, or scales, I would love to meet them! For house sitting, I would be able to provide all the same services as I would for boarding pets at my house. Walks: I would plan on having walks last about half an hour, and be in the same neighborhood as you live. I am comfortable taking high energy dogs on longer walks, when requested. I am also open to any suggestions on good places to walk near your neighborhood, if you have any recommendations. I am able to bring leashes, water, and poop bags to all walks. I usually have some treats in my car for after walks, so if your dog has any dietary restrictions let me know. If they have their own treats, I am happy to use those instead too. I also understand that some dogs, especially older ones, have difficulty on long walks; I’ll be sure not to push any dogs too hard if it seems like they’re having a tough time.

John did a great job house sitting my pups when we had to go out of town last minute. We recently moved to a new area so he took them out for walks to explore. He was courteous and kept us updated with pictures. Thanks John!

John is a wonderful, caring, loving and adventurous young man. He has had dogs and cats in his life since he was born. He grew up in a family in which animals are part of the family. As a young boy he volunteered at the local pet shelter. During the pandemic he has pretty much been responsible for caring, walking and giving medication to our 12 year old lab, Rudy. He does not look at this as a chore. He looks forward every day to his time with Rudy; walking on trails in the woods, walking on the beach or just hanging out in the yard doing yard work. John is very responsible and has always taken pride in all of his jobs. He would be a wonderful dog walker/sitter for your organization.

Information John M. would like to know about your pet

How well do they get along with other dogs and/or cats? Does your pet take any medications? If so, what medications, when do they take them, and how are they administered (orally or injected)?

A typical day

I can take dogs on hikes in Ravenswood or Dogtown, or shorter walks through Stage Fort Park or down the boulevard. I am comfortable walking dogs off leash in Ravenswood and Dogtown if they are comfortable with other people and dogs. I also enjoy bringing dogs to the beach to go swimming (I can bring towels to dry them off after). We can also spend time playing outside in my yard if they are staying at my house.
