Country Vacation with Playmates

Pet care experience

We love dogs! We have two rescue lab mixes and also frequently foster for a local lab rescue. Over the last 5 years we have have had 55+ dogs come through our house and they stay for anywhere from 2 days to 4-5 months. We are used to all sorts of dogs - puppies through seniors, hyper and ball crazy to to mellow couch potatoes. Every dog is different, but we will love them like they are part of our family when they aren't able to be with their actual family. We prefer rescue dogs as they are the best!! We are home most of the day, so your dog would have free roam of the house and supervised access to the yard for playing and potty breaks.

Roxy is a shy dog and take a while to warm up to people. Jo did a great job making her feel comfortable. She sent me pictures and text messages throughout the stay. To inform me on how much fun she was having. It was a great relief traveling knowing that my puppy was in great hands. I highly recommend her for any pet needs. I look forward to more dog days with her.

Jo is a loving, attentive and caring dog-owner. Her dogs are her family and she loves them all unconditionally. Jo has fostered so many dogs over the past few years in addition to caring for her own dogs and I know she would make a wonderful caregiver for any dog lucky enough to get to meet her!

Jo is a dog lover from head to toe and treats dogs like her babies. Any dog would be lucky to have Jo as a care giver - she is gentle and kind, and gives dogs the love, time and a sense of security that can't be found at a kennel. I would highly recommend Jo for dogs of all shapes, sizes, personalities, abilities and medical needs.

Information Jo S. would like to know about your pet

We prefer rescue dogs at our house. These dogs have sat in shelters at some point in their life and deserve to be in a nice home environment whenever they have to be without their owners. Big or small doesn't matter too much but we'd prefer a medium or large sized dog. We will accept young dogs and seniors, or anything in between. These are the requirements for a dog to come stay with us: *Your dog must be friendly with other dogs and not aggressive. If the aggression is only related to food, that's ok as the dogs will always be fed separately. *Your dog must be able to read social queues from other dogs. If my 13 year old dog kindly asks to be left alone, your dog should realize that it has two other buddies to play with and go bug one of them. *We prefer dogs that are treated like they are part of your family. *Dogs that have an extremely high prey drive shouldn't stay here. We live in the country and have deer, rabbits, and most every other animal around. Our fence is 6 feet high and extremely secure but it's my belief that any motivated dog can escape any fence that it wants to. *Good leash manners are preferred, as your dog will be walking with 1-2 of our dogs. A head halter or harness is preferred. *Crate training is a plus. Even if your dog has graduated out of its crate, it will be in a new environment and could possibly do some damage to itself or the house. We are home 90% of the time, but would like to crate your dog when we are gone just to be on the safe side. *Your dog should be healthy and up to date on all vaccines.

A typical day

We live on 5 acres right outside of Parker. Our dogs enjoy watching the wildlife (deer, rabbits, birds, etc) from the 2nd floor deck that overlooks our property. We go on daily 30 minute walks, usually in the morning. There is a 10,000 sq ft extremely secured 6ft fenced dog area for the dogs to run and play in. We can play outside as much as your dog wants, weather permitting. We have a ton of toys and can play ball, or your dog can play chase and wrestle with our dogs. Chase is the favorite game of our dogs, but if your dog is ball-crazy or just wants to sit around and relax, that's ok too. Your dog will never ever be left outside unattended, though if they are trustworthy they may be able to take naps in the sun on the deck. Your dog will choose where they want to sleep - on the bed, couch, dog bed, or floor (no matter how many dog beds we put out they ultimately end up laying next to the dog bed most of the time).
