You are the owner, so I do not try to be. Usually your dog/puppy will be very happy to get out and walk and go through the library of smells along the way. I make certain they drink when we return and I give kind words and praise and let them know before I leave that you are returning. I also think it is important not to assume that your dog loves any other dog that is walking, so I will cross the street or otherwise avoid closeness. During the summer months I will try and walk every available shady area possible, In a half an hour, depending on the dog or the weather, we walk 1 to 2 miles. Rain is ok, but lightning withing 12 miles is not.
