Professional Dog Trainer!

Pet care experience

* Please be sure to read this in its entirety before reaching out!* Hey All! My name is Jessie Moon and I'm a professional dog trainer local to Asheville, NC. My pronouns are He/Him. I own my own dog training business and held the CPDT-KA certification for several years and plan to be recertified again soon! As a professional dog trainer, you can rest assured knowing that your dog is in the very best and most knowledgeable hands! If you need any help with a behavior problem or training, please let me know, as I'm happy to help! A few things to know about me and how I operate: • I always have a free meet and greet before accepting a new client, unless there is an emergency that prevents it. It's important to me that we are both a great fit for working with each other! • Before our meet and greet, please let me know a few things: Does your dog have any food allergies, fear of strangers, or fear of hats? I make my treats from scratch and, if I have time, I'm happy to make a batch just for them :) If your pup is fearful of strangers, I can be sure I'm behaving in a particularly nonthreatening way :) I LOVE wearing my heavily feathered (each feather found on a dog walk!) and crystal-ed hat, but am happy to leave it at home if that might spook your pup- I just need to know first! • If you're looking to book walks (or sitting that includes walks): If your dog(s) pulls on a leash or/and is reactive, please know I will ask if you'd like to employ my training services. If that is not an option, I completely understand, but I will need to manage the behavior somehow- either with a front-latching harness or a Halti. For reactive dogs or very strong pullers, I recommend Halti's. (Not Gentle Leaders!!) • If you're looking to book sitting services: Please know that I have a service dog who will need to be able to stay with me for health reasons. She's a black Goldendoodle, and her name is Shiva. She is very friendly around dogs but is also trained to stay separated from dogs that are not friendly in a sitting situation. There are two options: If your dog is friendly with other dogs, we can meet at a local dog park and let them get acquainted with each other, then meet at your home to finish up our meet and greet. If your dog is not friendly with other dogs, during our meet and greet I will take a look at how your home is set up and show you how I will create a double barrier (including a sight barrier) to keep them separated. This reduces the stress of your pup and ensures that everyone stays safe. Thank you for reading this, and I am looking forward to hearing from you!

The dogs loved having Jessie checking in on them and playing inside and outside while I was out of town for a day trip. Jessie provided great feedback on the dog’s behavior as a trainer and sitter, and sent lots of updates and pictures during the stay. I will definitely be rebooking in the future!

Jessie was so great with our Daisy! We knew she was in good hands, and after every walk Jessie always left a great message and cute pictures! Our dog is not dog friendly but we knew Jessie would make sure she was safe when walking. We will definitely be using them in the future!

Prefacing by saying that our dogs were ok in the end but this was a stressful experience for us and want to give an honest description of Jessie's sitting of our dogs. We had booked Jessie for 6 days while we were out of the country, starting our first day at 8 AM (we left late the night before). The week of our departure, Jessie and I confirmed the start/departure time since I had booked for an 8am start not knowing about the hours starting at 9:30. There was not much communication leading up to the first day except Jessie telling us that their official hours didn't start until 9:30 so there would be a slight upcharge. This was Oct. 27 and I said we wanted them to best case scenario come early 7:30/8am but worst case come 9:30. They never confirmed an early arrival or a normal 9:30 arrival. We left the 28th of October. We were in the air and without service until about 11, and when we landed there was still no initial message from Jessie informing us that the walk had started. We tried to get in contact but were not able to, so we messaged our neighbors to ask them to check if Jessie was there (they were not and our key was still under our doormat). Luckily our neighbor was able to take our dogs out who had not been out for 14ish hours. While on the walk they informed us that Jessie had arrived and was now walking the dogs. Still to this point Jessie had not contacted us at all (there is no way to contact them besides Rover as their phone number is not live). A bit after 12 Jessie texted us to let us know the dogs were doing fine and that they had been walked. This was the last time we heard from Jessie until 2 AM the following morning when they gave us an update. The next two days we only received one message a day (which would be fine normally but considering the circumstances we had not been inspired with confidence). On our 4th day, we received a call from a neighbor in our apartment complex letting us know that one of our dogs had run away but luckily they were able to secure them in their car. Jessie retrieved our dog from the car and then messaged us letting us know what had happened. The rest of their stay went fine without anymore issues. When we got home our house was very clean and our dogs were happy and in good health. Jessie is very good with and knowledgeable about dogs but the lack of communication, especially after the very late start made this a negative experience for us (our dogs were ok in the end so I don't feel like we can say 1 star).

Safety, trust & environment

All care I offer is based on the individual animal at hand, their needs, and their preferences. My interactions with all animals are backed by fear-free and positive reinforcement-based training and handling approaches- it's important to me that everyone is having a great time and that their individual needs are met!

Information Jessie M. would like to know about your pet

Please tell me BEFORE I meet you and your dog if you've EVER seen ANY aggressive tendencies, such as barking at strangers or other dogs, growling or snapping over food/toys/chews, a tendency to "guard" their house/person/space/etc. (I'll still work with you- it's just important that I know first!) I also need to know if your dog is shy or fearful to ensure I don't accidently approach them too directly during our introductions. I also like to know what equipment you use for walking your dog (if doing dog walks), what kind of play your dog enjoys the most (for drop-in visits), and what your dog's usual day activity and feeding schedule is (for house-sitting and/or if you're having behavioral issues and would like feedback).

A typical day

I am a huge fan of fetch, tug/drop it, food toys, and brain games! I also really like doing attention-to-handler games and relax-on-a-mat games! One of my favorite things to do with puppies is to set aside a portion of their food and to use it to reward calm, appropriate behaviors as they happen throughout the day (this is called SMART- See Mark And Reward Training).
