I am willing to take more that one pet at a time only if they are from the same family. We do have pets (2 dogs and 2 cats) of our own and children (3 girls age 8 and 18month twins). So it is important to have everyone get along. We have a dog area that is fully fenced on the side of the house and a doggy door that leads to it. There is also a fully insulated dog house if they choose to stay outside for longer periods of time. The pets do have full access to my home. I may or may not lit them sleep with me, all depend on them. I just ask that they are nice and house trained.
