Pet care in a post pandemic world
Pet care experience
During quarantine I struggled with losing out on my local volunteering position at Animal Control’s adoption facility. As a volunteer I was able to spend many hours each week getting to know new animal friends. Aside from simple walks I was proud to give plenty of baths and special support for dogs who needed more attention or emotional support in such a strange and scary setting. At home I care for 2 house rabbits, one of whom loves dog and has managed to make friends with every dog we sit. Before adopting my first rabbit I was a dog foster home for DCPAWS rescue. In my first year I was lucky to have 8 dogs stay in my home before being adopted into their forever families. I love animals dearly and will always stop to say hello to new dog friends. Since Covid I strive to offer safe and healthy service to those who may need an extra hand with their animals, whether it be because of travel or work. I provide pet care full-time, seven days a week. An ongoing exception is Sunday from 9 AM to 12:30 PM I work another job in Olney. I'm in and out of the house throughout the day providing walks and drop in visits with Rover clients, returning home between services to give attention to any animals boarding at my home. I live in a condo right off the Columbia Association walking paths with my two litter trained house rabbits. I always introduce new dogs to my rabbits during meet and greets to see how they react to each other and adjust shared living spaces as needed. Some dogs get along great with the rabbits being free in the home and others need a little more separation which I can accommodate. I have an XL dog crate in my home for guests, we always crate when leaving the home to ensure your dog is safe and sound when alone. My furniture is pet friendly so any couch potatoes are welcome. Walks: For the safety of pets I shorten walks at my discretion when the heat index is over 85 degrees. House sitting: The house sitting rate includes a 10 hour overnight stay in the home from 9 PM to 7AM. Any additional time required to care for the pets would need to be booked separately as drop in visits. This is most likely to be needed as mid day walks/potty breaks and dinnertime meals or medications. Do to other existing clientele needs I am unable to provide constant 24 hour care in any home. Boarding: Includes 24 hours in my home per paid night. If pickup is scheduled more than 2 hours after the initial drop off time on the last day you will be charged an extended stay rate of 50% of one night. All dogs must be crate trained as I will crate whenever I leave the home and reserve the option of crating overnight. This is for the safety of your pets, my pets, and my home.
Reviews
Jessica took very good care of our elderly, diabetic cat. She sent us updates on how our cat was doing while we were gone and helped make sure that she ate and got her medication. We would definitely use Jessica again!
Jessica is great. She is very consistent.
Jessica was great! Good communication, kind, caring, and very good with our cat.
Perfect choice and would book again without hesitation.

Dogs staying at my home will be crated any time they are left alone and unattended for their safety, the safety of other guests, and the safety of my pet rabbits. Meet and greets are essential for boarding guests as we do a dog to rabbit introduction to be sure that prey drives are within a safe margin. KEYS My schedule does not allow for visits to pickup or return keys for walks, drop in visits or housesitting. Access to your home must be made available in the form of an electronic code or a key left onsite to be retrieved at the first visit. If leaving your key under a doormat is not an option I highly suggest the use of a combination code lockbox that can be attached to your front door or a handrail. Keys will be collected on the first visit and kept on my person until the last visit when I will return them to the place I found them.

Information Jessica K. would like to know about your pet
I like to know if any incoming dog is sociable with other dogs and people as well as what they're prey drive is like. Sometimes I have boarding guests that overlap for a day or two and it's important for me to know if your dog will be comfortable in that situation.
A typical day
I live along a newly renovated Columbia Association pathway which will allow us to enjoy some lovely walks. At home we can enjoy my a favorite activity, group naps.
