Hands On:Creature Care Artist
Pet care experience
I’m an artist and writer with many years of experience helping other creative people and busy professionals keep their business, studio, home, children and pets in order when their careers are at their peak. I’ve cared for sick and infirm and disabled pets (insulin dependent, epileptic prone to seizures, disabled in need of assistance to toilet, also pet hospice. I have a valid drivers license, but do not own a vehicle but use HOURCAR and Evie to travel as needed, some clients provide use of their car while I stay at their home (when I am covered or added as driver to their insurance policy). I am reliable, experienced, flexible with availability and can provide recent references. I can provide exercise and play for your pet, and if needed can lift and carry 40-50 lbs. My employment and booking history is marked by working in particular difficult situations with pets (and often people) who are temporarily or permanently considered to be tough cases. Stress and reactivity arises with change and separation, so fortunately come equipped with an easy going patience and a sense of humor.
Reviews
I will admit that I was nervous about using Rover, with my babies. We searched long and hard for the right dog caregiver and we were so happy to find Jessica! Jessica was amazing since Day 1. She carefully reviewed our profile, set up a visit, and when watching Mabel, kept us informed. Her reports were clear, informative and helpful. She showed so much care for our Mabel, by asking questions, making suggestions and discussing with us during our trip. Mabel ADORES Jessica. Mabel isn't the easiest pug, she takes patience, time, and is very nervous but when picking up Mabel, she was so happy, and kept going back and forth between Jessica and our family. We knew that Mabel felt safe with Jessica and enjoyed her time as she wagged her little pug tail. I would highly recommend Jessica for any job. She is honest, communicates well and keeps you informed with reports and photos if you want them! We will be keeping Jessica on the top of our list. It brings us so much relief to have found her and know that Mabel is safe with someone when we are so far away. Thank you, Jessica!
Jessica helped me last minute by watching my pup who had just been spayed. Jessica was very communicative and professional and I appreciate knowing my pup was in good hands. Thank you!
Jessica was great with Skip. When I was bringing him to her place the second time, he got all excited. Definitely would repeat!
Jessica kept up great communication, and I felt very comfortable leaving Bailey in her care!
About Jessica B.
Communication
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I try to maintain the care and schedule of your pet to as close to their normal as possible. So timing of walks, method of discipline or med administration, affection, feeding, etc.). Separation is difficult enough on a pet so I feel the least disruption to what they are accustomed to the smaller the effect on their well-being.
Information Jessica B. would like to know about your pet
I love to hear about pet particulars, the way you warm up the cat food, favorite spot to sit or hide, typical demeanor and any causes of reactivity or behavioral issues , any quirky traits or neurosis and method preferred to comfort or corrections.
A typical day
In the effort to maintain continuity of care while you are away I usually request any information on exercise, play, affection and rewards from you. It is important to me that the separation from you is not exacerbated with a big shift in care and routine. This doesn’t, of course, preclude me from discovering ways the pet seems to enjoy interacting with me, while careful to maintain structure so as not to run into “substitute teacher” behavioral issues.

I work freelance and volunteer, so have a very flexible schedule that I will to large extent be able to maneuver to maintain their normal , their needs, as well as extra time and attention that busy pet owners may not be able to provide as frequently.
