Allergies are TOTALLY worth cuddles

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Jessica! I currently work M-F 8-5pm and looking for a little side income. I’ve had both cats and dogs all my life, among a few other pets but I am experienced with a variety of animals from having my own or working in a medical environment: rabbits, rodents (I LOVE rats), turtles, birds (including chickens) and pigs. My previous cat of 14y had feline diabetes, so I am happy to help out with any insulin shots if needed in any animal. I am capable of giving subcutaneous or intramuscular injections as well as oral medications if needed. Even if you don’t need me to pet sit or check in but just need some help with medications, I will gladly come help or teach. It’s not a problem to grab your mail/newspapers/packages if needed while you are out of town or check on other low maintence pets (fish tank for example). I have pet sat for several friends and family while they go on vacations and probably send them more pictures than then could possible need of their pets while they are gone. Generally having worked with all sorts of animals over years, little grosses me out and being a cat owner...read: hairballs, I am always prepared with a can of Resolve and a roll of paper towels. Now, who needs a good brushing?! My only stipulation for dog walking is I would prefer to walk in safe, well-lit neighborhoods before sundown (otherwise I may bring my husband to accompany me). I do have three indoor cats who believe they rule the house, so unfortunately I can’t keep additional animals here. At this time, I am only available evenings and some weekends, with advance notice such that I can plan ahead with work hours and commutes. It’s important to be mindful of entering another animal’s domain when they don’t know you. I always enter the door slowly as to prevent any escapes, aggression, or startle. I always seek out the pet first and start with an immediate walk to prevent any excitable accidents on the floor, plus they have been waiting for a long time to go out. After returning, I’ll feed/water/cat litter as needed and do a house spot check for any accidents that need cleaned up or anything on the floor that needs picked up to prevent choking. After that, the rest of the time is dedicated to cuddles and play time!

Jessica did everything we asked and provided lots of great pictures and notes while we were away. She was very helpful with setting up our first rover visit. We will definitely be booking with her again.

Jessica was fabulous! She loved on our tabby cat and met him at his place of need. She really was so kind and understanding of all his quirks! We felt so comfortable leaving him in her hands for the week. She was also very willing to help with the mail and a couple of plants. Couldn't have been more pleased with her service. Would highly recommend!

Information Jessica B. would like to know about your pet

It’s always nice to know if the dog knows any basic commands or tricks and if treats are permitted! If the dog is a “puller” on a leash or has a tendency to snap if touched in a particular place. Perhaps any other habits or tendencies or hiding places if they are alarmed by visitors initially. I’m ok with any dog/cat/animal but just a clear run down of the personality would be helpful!

A typical day

When going on walks, I like to let the dog control the pace and I will control the direction. Some dogs pull and have so much energy that they just need to get some of their energy out of their system- if there is a fenced dog park where we can go off leash, I will start there first. Generally, the rest of the walk will be more relaxed. Until I know the dog’s personality, I keep them away from other people and other dogs. If the dog knows any commands, I will usually run thru a few and interact excited when performed correctly to build a relationship with your dog. If treats are allowed, we usually become best friends in no time. I quickly learn which dogs like to chase toys, play fetch or enjoys tug of war. If they like sticks, we will certainly find a stick they can proudly carry on the rest of their walk.
