Your Cat & Dog's 2nd Home Off I-5

Pet care experience

Former professional dog trainer and exotic feline owner, currently the recent adopter of a darling ocicat kitten. I would love to offer your furry family a safe and warm home to stay in while you’re away; in addition to dog boarding I have a cat sanctuary room and can host ferrets. I'm located in a quiet, safe small town south of Albany with easy commuter access to I-5 or an easy drop-off on the way to PDX. I’ve been a professional trainer, shelter volunteer, spay/neuter clinic volunteer, and cared for pets with special medical needs. Because I recently adopted a kitten and am adjusting to a new routine and working on slowly socializing him with dogs, I will need to be more selective about the bookings that I take for a while to make sure I can accommodate everyone safely and happily. Dogs need not necessarily be cat friendly as I have things set up to keep them separate, but dogs will need to be comfortable sleeping on their own in the living room as my bedroom is now kitten territory. I will probably also decline breeds with very high prey drives for safety's sake. I was a professional dog trainer for many years, and would be happy to offer your dog positive-reinforcement-based lessons while they are here. It’s mentally stimulating and they like it because, well, treats!

If I could give more stars I would. I am a nervous dog parent, but I don't worry at all when my dogs are with Jessi. I know they get all the attention they need and then some.

We had a great experience with Jessi as our dog sitter. She was responsible and attentive to our Goldendoodle during his four-day, three-night stay. Jessi ensured our energetic pup got plenty of exercise by taking him on multiple walks and playing fetch with him in her backyard. Her communication was also excellent - she responded quickly to our messages and sent us several photos throughout the stay. These updates helped ease our stress as a dog parent and allowed us to enjoy our time away. Jessi consistently provided peace of mind by sending us photos, which effectively reduces stress levels in dog parents. We highly recommend Jessi as a caregiver for any dog owner looking for a trustworthy and active sitter. She took excellent care of our furry boy, and we cannot thank her enough.

I live in a relaxed small town with a generally laid-back atmosphere, and most dogs are quite relaxed and comfortable here. I have a large fully fenced back yard. To be able to prevent fence fighting with neighbor dogs and keep it from becoming a mud pit in winter, I take them out for potty breaks and play time; it’s not free range all of the time. Especially in Oregon winter. Dogs have free run of the living room and kitchen, and clean, well-mannered cuddlers are welcome to sleep with me. My bed doesn't have room for very large dogs, and if a dog shows resource guarding behaviors or won't settle down to sleep for the night, I have them sleep outside the bedroom. They can also be crated at night if that’s their routine (bring and set up your own crate). I can accommodate cats as well. Critters are welcome on the furniture and my living room is furnished to accommodate multiple dogs of various sizes. I provide high quality spring water to friends in my care.

Information Jessi C. would like to know about your pet

How many furry family members are you seeking care for? What species and breed(s) are your buddies? I have experience with and can readily accomodate dogs, cats, and ferrets. Other critters? Let's chat, I might be able to host your unusual furred, feathered, or scaly friend. Do they get along with other pets, or will they need to be my only guests? If they have special medication needs, let's discuss them. I can give oral medication, ear and eye drops, injections, and subcutaneous fluids, but need to charge a bit more for extra care if it is time-consuming. For boarding, I'll also need to know if your best friend has separation anxiety to the point where they can't be left alone while I go shopping or do other brief errands in town. This wouldn't mean I can't host them for short stays, but it would require some extra planning and accommodation. I can definitely handle large dogs and ones who are a "handful" or exhibit behaviors like jumping up or pulling, and can help with training lessons while they are here. However, if you have a highly active working dog like a husky or border collie, they may be more suited to a group setting where they can get tons of exercise running around. This is my home and I work here, so this would be a better fit for dogs who are just plain more comfortable relaxing in a home rather than needing to be constantly active. You have a Great Dane who needs an emotional support person around? Totally cool with that. You have a Jack Russel terrier who constantly leaps six feet in the air to catch flies, my hair, and invisible specs on the wall whenever not frantically shredding his chew toy? Probably not a great fit. With all of this being said, I’ve been that person trying to find care for a pet who simply doesn’t fit into existing structures due to behavior issues or even their species (I lived with an African serval for 18 years). If you need someone to help with a special case, I may be able to work with you. I have worked with aggressive dogs and dogs who are reactive on leash and will often be comfortable with them. There may be extra costs associated with hosting a high-maintenance companion especially if they need to be the only dog. Because this is my home, I have some hard limits of behaviors that I won’t accept in order to prevent damage. If your companion: 1: Chews things that are not toys, 2: Marks indoors, has an issue with submissive urination, is incontinent or is not fully housebroken, 3: Claws doors, or 4: Digs compulsively, I will not be able to accommodate them. I do bill for damaged items and excess cleaning needs resulting from your pet's stay in my home. I am only able to accommodate pets who are clean, dry, and well-groomed as well as up to date on their flea treatment. MEET & GREET: Before your furbaby's first stay, we'll want to get together so your best friend and I can meet each other and we can all make sure it's a good fit. For the health and comfort of your loved ones, please bring proof of current flea treatment (Frontline, Comfortis, etc), rabies vaccination, and DHLPP & kennel cough vaccination (dogs) or FVRCP vaccination (cats) to the meet & greet. I require this of all clients so that you can be confident that your beloved pet will not contract fleas or a preventable illness during their stay. THE CAT SANCTUARY I can host one cat (or ferret!) family at a time in my secondary home office. Recently rennovated with "cat sanctuary" in mind as one of the purposes, this is a functioning room in my house, not an animal enclosure. It hits that sweet spot of spacious enough to exercise, but small enough that they are less overwhelmed by a new environment. It features central heating, a window to the large back yard with bird viewing, hiding places, cat nooks in the shelving, and plenty of soft resting places for multiple cats. It's quiet and relaxing with room to play. The closet area is the perfect spot for your litter box. I'm experienced with former ferals, exotics, and hybrids. I've had the misfortune to deal with a number of kitty medical issues requiring injections, fluid administration, etc. and while I may charge more for more challenging furbabies, I can usually handle their needs. I am happy to hang out with them and work on my laptop or leave them alone for the most part. CAT RATES: The standard rate is $44/night for the first cat and $10/night for each additional cat. This covers basic care; love, interaction, group feeding, and cleaning litter box(es). If your "additional cats" require medication, individual feeding, etc. there will be an additional cost above the $10 add-on rate. Please ask for my additional care menu. Downsides and requirements: It does not have AC in the summer months unfortunately. I do host dogs; they are not allowed in the cat sanctuary and I'm very careful to make sure they never encounter each other. Proof of vaccination (including rabies) and evidence of flea treatment are required. I do not host cats who spray or are incontenent as the room is not set up for that. In general all cats over 6 months must be spayed or neutered. Exceptions may be made for recently rescued nursing females and carefully screened RESPONSIBLE breeders of SHOW cats. I do not host cats who spray! If you are fostering, the rescue group must be aware that I am caring for the cat(s) and be willing to be a backup contact. I will exercise the utmost care to make sure your feline friend does not escape. My windows are screened and I make sure there is always an extra door closed between us when entering and leaving. That said, I also highly recommend all cats be microchipped before boarding them here or anywhere else. Unless you know your kitty is very confident and handles being boarded well, you might want to ask your vet for some mild anti-anxiety medication such as Gabapentin that I can give them if they are stressed and hiding to make their stay more enjoyable. FERRETS AKA HOUSE WEASELS I can host ferrets in my cat sanctuary room which you can read about above. FERRET RATES: The standard rate is $44/night for the first ferret and $10/night for each additional house weasel. This covers basic care; love, interaction, group feeding, and cleaning litter box(es). If your "additional weasels" require medication, individual feeding, etc. there will be an additional cost above the $10 add-on rate. Please ask for my additional care menu. Ferrets must be vaccinated (including rabies), altered and de-scented. Ferrets with serious bite histories (drawing blood) or who chew cords and household objects will need to be caged only. CAGED/SUPERVISED ROAMING FERRETS: Ferrets who are primarily caged with supervised roaming need to come in a small/travel cage that will fit in my cat sanctuary - message me. There isn't room to set up a whole large ferret house cage. FREE ROAMING FERRETS: Must be conditioned to go to the bathroom in a box or on corner mats, and come with supplies for them to do so as well as a travel cage. VETERINARY CONCERNS: For emergencies, I typically use Willamette Veterinary Hospital in Corvallis, a loving and capable 24/7 emergency vet about 30 minutes from my place. They are well equipped, work with all species (including the residents of the Oregon Coast Aquarium), and their fees are more reasonable than most emergency vets. Please leave me with information about your pet's normal vet in case of any issues during their office hours. As you are probably aware, most vets have very long wait times for appointments due to COVID-19, which means that if your pet needs to be seen on an urgent basis they will probably have to go to the emergency vet. It would be a good precaution to contact Willamette Veterinary Hospital to authorize care and provide instructions in the unlikely event that your pet experiences an illness or injury while you are gone so that care does not have to wait while they contact you for authorization. Not a possibility anyone wants to think about, but it's an important precaution to take on behalf of your fur babies. I'm looking forward to meeting and falling in love with your four-legged family, and making them welcome in my home so that you can know that they are safe and happy while you're away.

A typical day

I'm a late riser, so your furry people will get to enjoy a nice cuddly relaxed morning on the bed with me. We'll get up, enjoy breakfast and a run in my large fenced yard. They can relax with me while I start my work from home routine, and in the afternoon we'll go for a safe leashed walk around the quiet neighborhood and maybe some positive-reinforcement based obedience lessons. We'll spend a peaceful afternoon and evening as I work from home, do home improvement projects (I'm doing a lot of work on my house, so you may see work in progress LOL!), and listen to some good music, punctuated with romps in the back yard and maybe some more training breaks, then enjoy dinner and watching TV together late into the night. Kitties (or ferrets) will be lounging in my cat sanctuary room, bird-watching, or maybe exploring under the bed or in one of the raised nooks while I work on my laptop.

I work from home, so I'll be around with your babies the vast majority of the time. I do leave the house for groceries, appointments, lawn mowing, etc. so I do not offer continuous/24 hour care. I’m an evening person so I don’t really “do” early mornings, but the upside of that is that I can do evening pickups and drop-offs! I may be able to wake up early for you if you're dropping off for boarding, as long as you don't mind un-brushed hair and a sleepy expression LOL. AFTER-HOURS DROP OFF/PICK UP: There is an after-hours pick-up or drop-off charge of $25 before 8am and $20 after 8pm. Pick-up after 9:00pm is not offered; please book overnight in these cases. These are not automatically applied by rover but will be added to your reservation before the booking is accepted. DAY CARE DURATION AND SCHEDULING: The doggie day care rate is for a maximum of 9 hours. Additional time is charged at $5/hour for adult dogs and $10/hour for dogs under one year. There is an after-hours pick-up or drop-off charge of $25 before 8am and $20 after 8pm. Pick-up after 9:00pm is not offered; please book overnight in these cases. These are not automatically applied by rover but will be added to your reservation before the booking is accepted. DAY CARE CANCELLATION: Rover’s automated cancellation policy for doggie day care is same day, however this is not practical for me as I plan and schedule around your reservation. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, full payment is still expected. You will be able to (and welcome to) obtain a refund through Rover, however future bookings will not be accepted without payment for canceled bookings. If you need a more flexible "drop in any time" day care experience, I would suggest a group commercial doggie day care facility. Mine is more suited to advance planners who would like their dog to receive personal care in a home environment.
