Fenced Yard, Attached to a Park!

Pet care experience

Hello fellow dog lovers! I have been on Rover for a few years now, and I absolutely love meeting and caring for everyone's furry family members. I never dreamed I could do this full time, but once I heard the horror stories about some of the kennel boarding facilities, I really had no choice than to give a home-away-from-home model for fellow owners. I just moved into a new home in Kirkland, and it is practically designed for dogs. We have a fenced-in backyard for the flighty ones to run around, and our own back gate to access the big park behind us. I always keep the dogs on a leash in the park, but they have more space. Almost everyone in the neighborhood has a dog, and frequently go out to play, so we have the option to go run around with new friends whenever we want! I had a chocolate lab rescue at my family home (previously a stray) for 14 years, but she passed away, and I missed having a dog around for my adventures/snuggles. Now that I was able to buy a home with dogs in mind, I have officially adopted my own new family member, Roo. Roo was actually the “Socializer” at the shelter she came from, and worked to help ease shy or nervous dogs out of their shell. She plays well with dogs big and small, and truly just wants to find more excuses to wag her tail and please her humans. We have boarded her with other dogs, and she has done extremely well both in matching their play, or leaving them alone. Unfortunately she was bitten by a dog during play recently, so please no aggressive players. Otherwise, she loves new friends coming to the house as much as we do!. Each dog is different, so I’d like to hear from the owner what their dog likes and dislikes to make them the most comfortable during their time with me. I love to love on other people’s dogs, but also understand how nerve-racking it can be for a dog to be with a new stranger, so I can give love in different ways and know how to give each dog their space. I would make sure your dog is the most loved and safe, just like they were my own. I do have crate options for dogs that feel more comfortable in their own space. I am always willing to set up a meet-and-greet, as I know it is hard to let a new stranger care for your pet. I have always been known as a dog lover, and cannot help but go out of my way to make them feel loved.

Jess always does a great job with my dog Keeva. I think Keeva goes through Jess & Roo withdrawals after I bring her home because she has a great time there!

Moose was right at home staying with Jess and we got plenty of pictures and videos throughout our trip. We’ll definitely be back!

Second time we had Jess care for Penny. Jess is extremely easy to work with and flexible, and most importantly her care for Penny is second to none.

Jess was soo sweet to my pup for his first rover experience! He was extremely shy and nervous, but I could tell he was in good hands. Excellent communication and he had a great time running around.

Safety, trust & environment

I will treat your dog like my own, especially given how nerve racking a new environment/people can be. I will want to know all about their personality to make them truly comfortable, both the "bad" and "good". It can be scary for both the owner and the dog to board with a stranger, so I would like every owner to know that I am willing to work as much with you and your dog to ensure everyone is happy. I send a lot of pictures and videos throughout the day to ensure you know your pup is well taken care of, and I truly hope we can make a home-away-from-home environment.

Information Jess S. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know a bit about their personalities, like how shy they are to prevent intimidation or what they like in terms of activities or rubs! I have no breed preferences; I love them all :)

A typical day

I love to walk around the neighborhood and go to downtown Kirkland, as it is so close, so having another pup to walk with me has always been nice! I love the Marymore dog park, but also have made a small type of dog park in my back yard for them to romp around here at home. I frequently go to Jaspers Dog Park, since it is so close and fully fenced. I have also just moved back home from San Diego, where I became accustomed to consistent hikes. If your dog has a lot of energy or just likes to be outdoors, let me know and I’ll take them on one (or more) of my routine hikes!

I started gaining so much momentum with dog boarding, that I decided to do it full time! I am home all day with them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, writing lesson plans. I also work at Molbaks, just down the street from my house. My manager lets me take an hour lunch to come check on the dogs, and I also have a camera in my living room just in case. They are only alone 3 hours, walked for an hour on my lunch, and then alone 3 hours again. I keep my slider door open when I’m home for the dogs to run outside and play and come back inside to cool down in the AC. When it is super hot, I only let them out for timed periods of play before making them come back inside to cool off. I am really known as the dog lady in my neighborhood, always with a new squad!
