All Dogs are Good Dogs!
Pet care experience
I grew up around dogs, mostly medium-large dogs like German Shepherds, English Mastiffs, labs, and boxers. I've dog-sat and walked dogs of all sizes from Maltipoos to St. Bernards. I've had a Golden Retriever-Yellow Lab mix and currently have a Husky-Poodle mix named Hildegard (Hilda). We're still working on leash-training her; she seems to have that Husky instinct to pull! Cuddling, petting, and brushing dogs is a soothing for both me and your pup. I tend to connect with dogs more quickly than I do people. Hilda and I enjoy going for walks near the Duke campus, and we especially love hiking at the Eno or the Al Buehler trail. I like to unwind with quiet time at home, and spend a lot of time reading. Cuddle time with a pup goes perfectly with that activity. I also enjoy cycling and sitting on my porch and playing my ukulele. I’m patient and detail oriented, and I’m currently training Hilda to be a service dog. I’ve had dogs of my own and I have experience pet sitting for dogs and other animals, too. I love spending time with dogs. As long as your dog is dog-friendly, I'd be more than happy to bring my dog along to play or walk, and also have a fenced-in yard that our dogs could play in if you don't have a yard. Im comfortable giving dogs medication and I have to give myself weekly injections, so I'm pretty used to needles, if that's part of your dog needs. I have a part-time job (Monuts!), but I never work for more than six hours at a time.

My dog loved Jess!
Jess cared for my dog, Nina, over the span of four years. Every time I left town, Jess was the first person I called. He was the best caretaker for my dog I've ever had. Honestly, I think my dog looked forward to me going out of town just so she could be with Jess. Jess is responsible, follows instructions, and most importantly, absolutely loves dogs. In fact, Jess formed such a wonderful bond with my dog that when I had to move to a location that would not have worked for Nina, Jess adopted her.
Jess C. watched our dog Waldo for two nights. Jess was attentive and thorough, making sure Waldo's needs were met and that he had a good time while they were together. Jess communicated with us while we were gone, letting us know things were going well and giving us updates on Waldo's activities. Most importantly, Jess genuinely loves dogs and it was obvious how delighted they were to be with our beloved pup.

I love hearing about a dog’s quirks and habits. I once cared for a St. Bernard who would only drink water from the bathtub faucet! I like to know as much as possible about a dog I’m sitting for, and will ask about allergies, special diets, meds and routines. If your dog has a favorite walking route or park, let me know. If your dog would prefer to avoid other dogs, I can offer solo playtime in my fenced yard. What games does your dog like to play? What treats should I have on hand? I’m comfortable with all kinds of dogs, but I do like to spend time getting to know each other. If I will be watching your dog in your home, I like to meet there so that the dog will be prepared for seeing me in your space. Is your dog nervous or aggressive, and, if so, how do you manage that? Do you have other pets? I’ve taken care of cats, birds, and other small animals. What commands does your dog know, and which ones should we practice together?
A typical day
I like to hike and go for walks. I love exploring cities on foot, with or without a dog. If your dog gets along with my puppy, I’ll take both of them. I like to make sure dogs I look after don’t spend too much time alone while I’m working. Your dog will get plenty of playtime during the day and plenty of quiet time in the evening. I keep my phone with me, so you can reach me if you need to, and I can keep you updated about your dog’s visit. I’m calm, reliable and cautious -- I even bring water and a bowl when I hike after my puppy got giardia from river water once.
