I just recently had to put down my 11 year old boy, Rocky. He was diagnosed with Addison's disease when he was 2, so I have experience giving dogs medication and being very observant of their behavior. My vet said many dogs with Addison's (especially large breed, like Rocky), only live an average of 4-6 years after being diagnosed with Addison's. He probably would have lived longer but he ended up with Insulinoma through his body. The 1st vet that took care of him for about 8 years, ended up becoming a professor at Cape Fear Community College. I contacted her after putting Rocky down and she was shocked; not to learn he was gone, but more so because he lived to be 11 years old. Both her and the vet that had taken care of him the last few years, made similar comments; that if I hadn't taken such good care of him, he wouldn't have lived as long. The professor stated that she had never taken care of a large breed dog with Addison's that had lived so long and asked for my permission to use Rocky as an example when teaching her Endocrine classes. Of course, I agreed and felt proud of Rocky! When I worked at the Riverlanding Clubhouse in Wallace, I dog-sat for several members. The sitting included spending the night, walking their dog(s), picking up their feces, feeding them and, of course, loving them. One member had 5 dogs, so I can also multi-task when taking care of dogs. I'm pretty much available any time, with the expception of days when I deliver catering orders for Olive Garden, however, there is no set schedule for that so my time is very flexible and open. My best skill with dogs is simple: I love them.
