Home Away From Home

Pet care experience

Your dog will become part of our family while he/she is here with lots of playtime, toys, treats, cuddles, and belly rubs! My husband and teenagers help me out with the pups when they are home. Our kids have been raised with dogs since day one. They are very good at letting pups come to them and reading their non-verbal cues. Our "resident pup", Astrid, our Boston Terrier mix. She loves to play with guest dogs of all sizes and cuddles with her favorites. She is also good at respecting their space. I grew up with dogs and have been an adult owner for 20 years. I have a background in emergency medicine and a BS in Psychology, focusing on neuroscience and animal behavior. In addition I have experience working for a dog rescue. I have been full-time with Rover since 2016. Dogs are my life! I work from home taking care of pups full-time. Drop-off & pick-up hours 7am-7pm, by appointment. On occasion, we have evening events to go to and I may ask to coordinate a drop-off/pick-up time outside of normal hours. There's almost always someone home with the pups, unless if I'm chauffeuring kids around or we have a family event. When you bring your pup to stay with us, all you need to bring is their leash/collar, their food/meds, and emergency contact info. We supply everything else: kennels, dog beds, blankets, treats, toys, etc.

We booked Jennifer based on her excellent reviews and unfortunately didn’t have the same experience as others. Her reviews and profile say that everyone receives photos and updates though we often had to prompt them ourselves after long periods of time (we weren't asking for updates every other hour) and had a handful of messages go unanswered. The day that we didn’t prompt updates, we didn’t receive any. Obviously our dog was fine, and we received updates when asked, but overall this made for a very uneasy experience that we weren't expecting to have.

All my clients get PICTURES & UPDATES! I'll let you know if we're doing anything special that day, who they are playing with, the cute things they do, where they like to relax, if they are not eating or if I notice anything out of the norm. You are also welcome to text me at any time to check-in on your dog. I often post pictures and videos to my Instagram (@happylifepups) and Facebook page. Please let me know if you do NOT want your dog's picture posted. Our house is puppy-proofed! Bedrooms, closets, and bathrooms are closed and gated off during the day. Dogs are allowed into bedrooms when a family member invites them. (This keeps all human toys and socks out of reach.) All food and treats are kept high or put away, limiting the temptation to go shopping or counter-surfing. When we have especially curious pups staying with us, we also remove the knobs from the stovetop. Our backyard is completely fenced, with chainlink and wood fences 5-6 feet high and stone/concrete/timbers under the fences. We have a wood patio, patio pavers, and soft sand that make up half of our backyard. The other half is grass. We provide indoor kennels of various sizes, placed throughout our house. These have dog beds placed inside and are usually left open for dogs to use on their own terms. We do use them with doors closed in order to separate pups if there is no one home for a bit. The other time we use them is for puppies that just don't want the party to stop at bedtime.

A typical day

Our daily routine... We are usually up for a potty break around 4am or 6:30am and start our day with breakfast 7-8am. The pups and I spend our days going in and out to play in the backyard. Usually, the pups play for a few hours in the morning and tend to nap for a bit. Then we repeat in the afternoon & evening. Sometimes we like to go hiking in the mountains when the weather is nice or take a couple of pups for an evening walk in the neighborhood. We usually eat supper after daycare pups go home at 7pm.
