A Loving & Experienced Vet Nurse

Pet care experience

I am a retired Registered Veterinary Nurse/Tech with over 12 years of experience working as a veterinary professional who loves watching and caring for dogs of all shapes and sizes! Animals have been my number one love since I was a little girl…yes, I was that kid who was always bringing home random animals…lol! However, that love of animals from a young age, turned into a passion and a life dedicated to helping animals. And, as a Registered Veterinary Nurse/Tech, you know your pet will be in great hands. In addition, if you need any extra services done while out of town, I am happy to provide additional services at no charge, like a bath, nail trim, or ear cleaning. I have cared for many different dogs…from the young healthy puppies to the old, sick dogs. So no matter what, you can feel confident your pet, who I know and understand is part of the family, will be well taken care of, spoiled with lots of love, and treated like they are my own.

My two dogs had a great day playing with her golden retriever. Jennifer sent videos throughout the day that made me chuckle. One of my dogs didn’t want to leave, even after 8 hours of play. That’s a great sign in my book!

Jennifer was so amazing with our boy, Leo! She sent updates and gave him plenty of love. We will for sure book with her again. Her puppy was great with our dog and he got all the play time he needed!!

I recently did a long-term boarding stay with Jennifer (2 weeks) and I can’t say enough great things about her! The week before I left on my trip, my dog was experiencing some unforeseen skin problems that were going to require close monitoring and wound care that my regular dogsitters would not be able to provide. Needless to say, I was very stressed about finding someone who could care for Poppy in such a short amount of time. I was drawn to Jennifer’s profile because of her experience working as a vet tech. When I reached out, Jennifer responded immediately saying she would be happy to help (hooray!) and within just a few days of contacting her she made time for me and Poppy to come to her house and meet her, her daughter, and her sweet pup, Ellie. Poppy had an AMAZING stay with Jennifer! Jennifer sent me photos and videos of Poppy daily, keeping me updated on how much fun she was having with the other dogs and how her skin was healing. It provided such peace of mind knowing my pup was in such loving, caring hands! I am so grateful to Jennifer for helping me under such short notice, and even more grateful for the amazing care she provided. I will definitely be rebooking with her in the future!

Safety, trust & environment

To start with, I typically watch 3 dogs at a time, but during the holidays, I watch four dogs. So, if I am watching one dog or multiple dogs, I always make sure they are given lots of attention, exercise, and I always keep a close eye on them. If it’s your dogs first time at my house, I do everything possible to avoid leaving my house the first 24 hours. After that, if I have to run an errand, I have cameras set up so I can watch and speak to them while I am gone..never more than 2-3 hours. When they are outside, I am outside with them the entire time. Also, as an experienced veterinary professional, I have many medical supplies on hand, from simple ointments and bandages to a stethoscope. If there’s ever a reason I need to keep an eye on their vitals, I can. I understand that larger dogs need to exert more energy than the smaller breeds, so I always make arrangements to accommodate the needs of each dog on a daily basis. Plus, I can guarantee that no matter the size, we will have many adventures, walks and even runs if they enjoy going for a run. When I am watching a dog, being able to provide a safe, loving, and comfortable home while you are out of town, is what I will always strive for. That includes taking them outside as much as they want, monitoring play time, feeding every dog in their own personal space during meal time, giving each dog their own special one-on-one time each day, keeping my home clean and dog safe, providing physical and mental activities, playing relaxing white noise, and lastly, doing whatever I can to make sure each pup is happy and relaxed during their dogcation. ☺️

Information Jennifer N. would like to know about your pet

I always encourage meet and greets before your dogs stay, and during that time (while I am spoiling them with attention and treats) I like to discuss the details of caring for your dog. I like to know everything you feel is important so I am knowledgeable about their daily life, can provide the best care, and create the most comfortable environment for your dog. Some things I like to go over; what are his/her likes, dislikes, favorite things to do, feeding and walking schedule, any daily medication, allergies, any fears or quirks…ex: does your dog love to chew on baseball hats, socks, dig in the trash, afraid of storms or dogs bigger than them? Basically I'd like to know what a normal day is like for your dog, and things to anticipate when I am watching your pet. My goal is for you to be able to relax and enjoy your trip without having to worry about your beloved pet. Which is why I always send daily pictures/videos. I also ask that your pet is current on vaccines, free of any communicable diseases, and parasites.

A typical day

Daily Activities: I live in a very safe, quiet neighborhood, with a nice size yard for the dogs to run around in. Our days are spent playing chase, fetch, having fun in the pool on hot days, playing with a Kong that’s filled with frozen (low sodium) chicken broth, and walks around the neighborhood. I also live close to Grants Trail and a park that I often go to, with permission. We can walk anywhere from 1/2 a mile to 4 miles, depending on weather and mood of the pups. And, as I mentioned before, I also create and have activities for the older pups and when the weather prohibits us from being outside for long periods. Feeding Schedule: I always follow their feeding schedule at home. If they are fed once, twice, or three times, I can accommodate that with no problem. I understand some dogs are on strict schedules and know when it’s time to eat. To avoid anyone getting an upset stomach, please bring your dogs food. Sleeping Arrangements: When your dog is at my house, I let them sleep exactly where they would sleep if they were at home or wherever they want to. I have multiple large and a small dog beds they can sleep on anywhere in the house. I also have a large and small crate, if you crate your dog at night. I do recommend bringing your own crate and/or bedding because an item that smells of home and is also associated with relaxing, can help them feel close to you. Again, my goal is for your dogs stay with me to feel as close to their life at home as possible.

Availability

After working in the veterinary industry for over 12 years, I have recently decided to cut back on my hours at the hospital and get back into pet sitting. To keep my medical skills sharp, I will pick up a shift on days when I am NOT watching any dogs. Because I pick up shifts on occasion, at times, it can be difficult for me to respond to messages immediately since our phones have to be on silent and we are not allowed to check them often. Please keep that in mine when you first contact me. With that said, my daily life when watching dogs revolves around providing the best care for your dog. If your dog is at my house, you can be assured I am at home to watch, care, spoil, and play with your sweet pup. You will not have to worry about any other distractions occurring when I am caring for your dog. They are my main and first priority. So, if your pup loves to cuddle, you can guarantee they will get lots of cuddle time. If your pup loves to run around, play fetch, chase, tug of war, then I will make sure their days are filled with fun activities and the exercise they want/need. On days when the weather doesn’t want cooperate or if a dog prefers slower paced activities, I have puzzle/mental stimulation toys (for large and small breeds) that can entertain them for hours. I create an indoor play area where they can chase and wrestle. I also have a large bay window they can stare out of while laying down on the dog bed I’ll place in front of the window for them, along with doggie stairs so they can get up and down, easily and safely. Watching birds, squirrels, dogs, and people walk is definitely a fun activity for all!
