Dog fun in NE Portland
Pet care experience
I grew up with a miniature schnauzer and have always loved dogs. I have doggie sat for a variety of dogs (Chocolate Labs, a Golden Retriever puppy, Springer Spaniels, etc) for my friends in the past and enjoyed it. I like the company of a dog, but I'm often out of town and don't feel it would be fair to have a dog of my own yet. I have a great house which has separate front and back yards. Both spaces are fenced in. I live ten blocks from an off leash dog park for those pups who love to run with the other dogs. I know the importance of exercise for both humans and pets, and would be happy to take your pup for a walk on or off leash. For those dogs who like to play chuck-it, my backyard can provide the space needed for short exercise times. I am a teacher by trade, which means I have days off around holidays and during the summer months. During school days, I leave around 7am and return around 4pm, so your pup will need to be able to stay inside for that amount of time if I'm sitting during working days. My house is a 6 minute drive from the Portland Airport, which makes drop off and pick up easy if you're heading out of town on an airplane as well! If you have any questions about my availability, please don't hesitate to contact me! Why I love dog sitting As I mentioned in my profile, I grew up with a smaller dog. Out of college, my roommate was a foster mom for English Springer Spaniels. I've always enjoyed the company of dogs, but my schedule and budget do not allow me to feel comfortable enough to adopt a full time pet. I enjoy taking care of friends pets when they go out of town, and I feel most animals enjoy my home and my company. About my yard Both my front and back yards are fenced in. I usually take dogs out back, as there is a nice mix of grass and a cement pad. I've used the space to play "chuck-it" with a very-active chocolate lab in the back. I do have three organic garden beds, so if your pup is a "digger" just let me know so we can accommodate those needs. My experience administering medication I feel comfortable with pills and liquid medication. I have experience watching a friend's pet who needed thyroid medication daily. I do not feel comfortable with shots.
Reviews
Jennifer has watched my dog twice now. On the first stay Jennifer sent me daily pictures of my dog on walks and playing happily in her yard. The second time Jennifer came to pick up my dog, she was so excited, she knew that going with going with Jennifer meant lots of walks and fun. My dog has lots of energy so it's great to know Jennifer takes my dog on lots of walks in her neighborhood and on outings to parks and hiking in the woods. Having a yard at her home where my dog can run around and go to the bathroom if she needs to is a huge plus. Jennifer really aims to please and I am hesitant to post such a good review because I wan't her to be available for me when I need a dog sitter! Overall, 5 stars, great experience and would highly recommend her.
Jennifer was amazing, we have 2 dogs and 1 is dog aggressive. She dealt with it all well and professionally. We also had to chop and change our travel due to work and she coped really well. Would definitely use Jennifer again she was brilliant.

Information Jennifer K. would like to know about your pet
I would like to know the general personality of a dog before I meet them. If they have shown any type of aggression with people in their past, I would hesitate to host them. Dogs who have anxiety about being left alone for any amount of time would probably not be good fits for my home, as I have to be gone during teaching hours.
A typical day
Here's where we'll take our walks I live 1/2 mile from a dog park. If your dog is good off leash, I can take them to the park. If they are not, or you prefer that I just keep the leash on, there is a great path around the dog park that I like to walk around. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Your dog will sleep where they are comfortable. If they are crate trained, then I would continue that training. Dogs who have stayed in the past usually sleep on their doggie bed in my bedroom or in my kitchen, where ever they normally sleep. I want them to be comfortable in my home. Time I'll spend with your dog It depends on the time of year. If I'm teaching, I will spend a few hours in the afternoon/evening with your pet. If it's a holiday when I'm not teaching, I could spend up to most of the day with your dog. If they need more supervision/companionship, just email me your needs and we'll see if we can make things work for both of us.
