Acres of Play Space!

Pet care experience

Paul and I have a 4 acre property with a fenced back yard and dog door for free access to outside. Not only are we animal lovers, I have a BS in Animal Science and Management from UC Davis and worked in the animal health field for 10 years. We have one dog of our own, Sonja (a lab mix). She a veteran of meeting new visitor dogs and enjoys new friends! Please note we do require a meet and greet with new visitor dogs and our own dog here at the house before the beginning of a stay. If there isn't sufficient time for a meet and greet before the start of your proposed stay we will not be able to accommodate the stay. For this reason we are not a good sitter choice for short notice stays for new clients. For folks who have dogs with diabetes, rest assured your special needs dog would be in good hands with us. We used to have another elderly dog who had diabetes and Cushing's, so both Paul and myself are well versed in diabetes management in dogs. Unfortunately he has since passed on but he was with us for many years with his special needs. For added peace of mind we can take a glucose read on your diabetic pooch before they get their insulin injection. Paul and I both work from home, (he's a comic artist and I'm a consultant) so your pet will always have someone around to keep an eye on the doggie party going on inside our house. Should something unexpected happen during the day, there are two vet hospitals located minutes from our house. We are conveniently located right off 290 E and make a great drop off and pick up point for travelers heading eastbound towards Houston. Drop us a line to set up a time for a meet and greet and to take a look at our home. We look forward to meeting you and your pet! Why I love dog sitting I've been an animal lover all my life. So much so I went out and got a BS degree in Animal Science and Management. I grew up with dogs and have even worked as a vet tech at a small animal hospital. About my yard We have a large approx 1/4 acre fenced backyard. It's a 4 foot livestock/wrought iron fence so if your pet is a jumper/climber we'd need to know that ahead of time and limit the back yard access to only when we can be out there with them. In addition we have another 3 acres of pasture that we take our own dogs for walks in during the mornings and evenings. Being that it's only barb wire fence along the back and sides of the pasture area you and I would need to discuss if your pet would go on those walks as well and if they can be unleashed for them. My experience administering medication Yes. I'm comfortable administering all kinds of medications including shots. Paul and I are both experienced managing diabetic dogs since our own dog Konan had diabetes.

No breed preferences, large or small they are all welcome! If there's anything about your pooch you feel we should know to make them more comfortable lets talk.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks We have a dog door for free access to the fenced back yard area, though we also typically take our own dogs for a round the pasture stroll in the mornings and evenings. They dearly love to sniff for rabbits and what not out there! We'd have to discuss if you would like your dog to go on those outings as the pasture only has barbed wire fencing so a dog with an affinity for running off could get away if they aren't leashed. If your dog is obedient they can come with us off leash but if they are not trustworthy we can always put your dog on a leash for that walk so they don't miss out on the pasture grass sniffing fun! Your dog's sleeping arrangement Your dog would sleep in the house wherever he/she finds comfy. We have no off limits furniture in the house, though if your pet is not allowed on furniture we would reinforce that during their stay with us. We also have a couple of large dog beds. Paul typically works throughout the night in his art studio with the door open so your pooch can always access a human if they feel the need for reassurance. Time I'll spend with your dog Unless we go out to see a movie, someone will be home with your dog at all times. Paul and I are mostly homebodies so its rare that we go out on the town. When sitting someone else's pet, that's our first priority!
