20+ years of pet care experience!

Pet care experience

Hello! I’m Jen, and I was employed as a professional pet-caretaker specifically for senior dogs for almost 4 years before I joined Rover in 2016, for a total of just under 9 years of professional-level pet care experience. I have a cumulative 20 years of experience caring for dogs and cats, including those who require medication and adherence to strict health regimens (this includes diabetic animals). Additionally, I have been trained in dog & cat first aid, CPR, and the heimlich maneuver (for choking) in dogs & cats, and have extensive veterinary medical knowledge (self-taught and gained through experience working alongside veterinarians and veterinary staff). I am also skilled at handling more aggressive pets. My previous experience includes working with dogs and cats as a pet groomer, as well. As a pet owner, I've also cared for rodentia and birds, so if you're looking for someone to look after those little guys too, I'm your woman! Ever since I got my first dog at age 12, dogs have occupied the warmest part of my heart. I've owned and raised 3 dogs total and I have a 6 year old cat, Goldie (but I take care of 3 cats total in my household). My life has been so much more full and joyous because of the animals that have been in it. It's one of my most important life-long goals to positively impact animals' lives, in return for the love and happiness they have brought into mine. A little about me: I'm currently a student at CSULB, earning my Master of Science in psychology. Before I chose to go back to college, I had a career in human services in which I assisted people in obtaining employment. I am currently 35 and I have grown up and lived in the Bellflower/Lakewood/Long Beach area my whole life. So, what makes me different from other pet sitters and dog walkers? My whole life, I've had a special way with animals, especially dogs. Even the most anxious & aggressive dogs bond quickly with me. My mother thought I should've been a vet because I bond with animals so easily and enjoy interacting with and taking care of them so much. A cheesy dream I've always had is retiring, buying a farm, and adopting as many dogs, cats, horses, and any other kind of animals as could comfortably live on the property and taking care of them all... That's just the kind of person I am! :) On a final note, rest assured that I will love your pups (and kitties) and do everything I can to make them happy, healthy, and comfy while they're in my care! Note: *Please inquire about my Cat Care Rate for sitting--Rover's website does not accurately reflect my rates for this service. *Discounts on bookings for sitting over 5 animals (applies to standard rates).

Did such an amazing job with our dog, Gordie. Was communicative the entire week, sent tons of photos, and even picked some flowers for us for when we returned. Absolutely would book again.

Information Jen N. would like to know about your pet

Does he or she have a favorite toy or game? Do they get along well with other dogs (in case we encounter another dog on a walk or go to a dog park)? Does she or he have any dietary restrictions?

A typical day

The fun things we do will depend on the personality and needs of the dog (or cat!), but we may go to the dog park or beach, take car rides, play fetch, chase, or tug-of-war, go shopping at Petsmart or other pet stores, get a brushing, give belly scratches, have some treats, check out the neighborhood cats and dogs... the possibilities are endless! Kitties get lots of playtime: leave out the toys for us! When I take your dog on a walk, there are many little extra measures I take to make sure he/she is happy and safe. I bring water and a small water bowl as well as treats (dried chicken liver, anyone?) on walks (unless you wish otherwise); I carry pepper spray to protect your pup from any potential attacks by other animals or humans; if possible, I walk so that my body shades the sun from your dog (hahaaa! :) ); I am very patient and allow as many breaks to stop and smell or pee as desired; and I supply my own poop bags.
