Private dog care. No other pets.

Pet care experience

I have had dogs my entire life, from German Shepherds to Goldens, to Huskies and a Lhasa Apso. In that experience I have navigated some of the more challenging demands of dog ownership such as high energy, anxiety, dog reactivity, dog and people aggression, and critical care needs such as caring for blind dogs or dogs on significant medication and special diets. Like most people, I adore taking care of adorable furry family members. Bring me your floufs, chonks, and potatoes, they are always welcome and a pleasure to care for. What sets me apart is my willingness and expertise in caring for more challenging pets. Some pets need more informed care and handling. When I care for your pet, I am also your pet's advocate. When caring for dogs with high energy or behavioral challenges it’s critical to constantly monitor the dogs to be aware of their body language and the situation around them. Many times the dog handler must be proactive in avoiding negative outcomes for the dog, and it is this experience I aim to offer to my clients. To further advocate for your best friend, I only board one pet (or multiple pets from the same family) at any one time. You do not have to worry about your dog sharing space with unknown dogs, pets, or children. *Certain special cases such as people aggression, severe dog aggression, and severe separation anxiety from the owner may require a modified reservation with additional costs. These cases generally require special handling, planned walking routes and specific low traffic walking times to work around the unique needs of your dog. Please contact me to discuss if you have questions or concerns about your pet, or if you’ve had trouble with boarding and daycare due to your pets behavior*

Sadie was so comfortable staying with Jeff, and she had a great time. He defiinitely understands and loves dogs. Usually when I leave her, she is overly excited upon my return - pushing past me to get to the car to go home. When I went to pick her up from Jeff's, she met me at the gate wagging her tail. We opened the gate, she came over to me, let me hug her, and then turned around, went back inside and up onto his couch, happy as could be. Thanks, Jeff!!

Safety, trust & environment

I am only focused on your dog. I only board or provide daycare for one dog (or multiple dogs from the same family) at any one time. You do not have to worry about your dog sharing space or resources with unknown dogs, pets, or children. I am more than happy to schedule a meet and greet. This can be in a neutral public location that’s easy for your and your dog, or you are welcome to come to my house, and see where your dog will be staying (please note, if I have a client I am boarding during your meet and greet I can not let your dog up to my apartment, and not maybe you). There is no cost for a meet and greet and this gives us both an opportunity to better understand your dog's needs and your expectations. I live in an apartment but have a large amount of dedicated space for your dog. They are welcome throughout my apartment and I find they usually gravitate to my bed over theirs, which is great. I also live on the second floor and have a gated patio that provides a secure space for your dog to lay out in the sun, people watch, be outside, and take in the view. My apartment is dialed in with dog beds, toys, and treats (if approved). But you're welcome to bring anything special that makes your dog more at home or that is required for their care (e.g. toys, beds, blankets, crates, etc). *Your dog will never be at a dog park or other areas with large numbers of unleashed dogs. I will not put your dog in a vehicle without your knowledge and permission.* **Special care needs dogs will follow customized schedules and interactions based on their needs.**

Information Jeff F. would like to know about your pet

I am open to taking all breeds as well as dogs who are more challenging. Generally I will be looking for information on the following: Dog temperament, normal exercise, special needs, food and treats, details on the leash/collar/harness used

A typical day

Our first day starts with transferring your dog into my care. Generally this is done at my apartment, but I do offer transportation. When you come to my place, I can provide parking and I will come to help carry your dog's things in. We will need to review what was brought as well as your pets primary needs (e.g. food, medication, special care) when you arrive. This is a good time to let your dog explore my house while you're there and you’re welcome to stay as long as needed to make your dog comfortable. Me and your dog can watch you pull away from the patio. Once in my care, more often than not I take your dog for a walk. It’s a safe bet they enjoy walks, and this gives us time to become friends in a fun way and with a somewhat common environment for your dog (outside on a walk). When we get back, the focus is making sure your dog gets comfortable. I provide a high level of attention until I notice they relax in their new favorite place for the first time. Given the excitement of a dog beach vacation, I expect there will be some early excitement/nervousness and energy. Typically I will engage your dog with some form of activity such as general play, basic training (based on your directions), chewing activities, or another walk. As we progress through our first day or evening we will have worked out all the dog energy, we will relax and sit on the couch or in bed and watch movies, play with our favorite toys, and just hangout. On any regular day, we will start with a routine that is as close to home as possible. Certainly, we will address the major things right away: food/meds, potty, walk. I usually spend around 60-90 mins every morning outside around my house, and your dog would generally come with me. This includes walks on the beach, long trips to the coffee shop, and hanging out with the neighbors. After our morning routine, we’ll settle into our day for a little bit until I run out of coffee or the day wants to go out. Coffee usually wins. So we’ll take 5-6 trips outside for hangouts with our friends throughout the day. I find the dogs spend a lot of time out on my patio or back in their more secluded dog bed. As evening approaches it is generally time for another good walk. I generally exercise dogs before dinner, as a good practice or well after they have eaten.

Availability

I am fortunate to work from home, which makes me incredibly flexible in terms of availability and ensures your dog is provided attention all day. I can accommodate your dog's needs all hours and weekends. My primary goal is to provide a reliable and trustworthy service that allows my clients to fully enjoy their time, knowing that their beloved furry family members are well-cared for. In addition, I want to make sure your dog has a great vacation, too! When I am caring for your dog, they get a lot more than a sitter. I will care for your dog like my own, and they get to come with me (most) anywhere I go. There will be daily adventures. There will be pictures and videos so you can enjoy some of their memories, too. *most of the time and adventures are on the Pacific and Mission Beach and Mission Bay *your dog would never travel in a vehicle without prior notice/approval *we would never be at a dog park or place with high numbers of unleashed dogs **Special care needs dogs will follow customized schedules and interactions based on their needs. *High Energy Dog Owners: I am actively looking for a few new clients who would need help with exercising their high energy breeds with some regularity. If you have a high energy or working line dog (e.g. huskies, shepherds, malinois, collies/aussies, pointers, etc) I can help ensure better behavior and improved health/fitness for your dog. These breeds require significant daily exercise and I can provide a leashed experience ensuring they get out, get their running in, and head back when they are tired and ready for all the cuddles.*
