When you need to be away And you can’t take your dog “Who ya gonna call?” Janice, Of Course. Since doing dog care as a business, I have met many dogs and their owners. Every dog is different and they need to be understood as being that one unique, special dog. Dogs love people unconditionally and that is what I try to give to the dogs. No matter what kind of dog or what its situation, I try to make each one feel special and loved. They, in turn, respond to me in an accepting and loving way – in other words, the feeling is mutual. I have been around dogs all my life – in childhood living on a farm, dogs were kept outside and were considered part of the farm animals that were cared just as the horses, cows, pigs and chickens. They had their job to do and we made sure they were in condition to do that. My father bred the hounds and I had the experience of seeing the puppies being born and learned how to care for them as newborns and as they grew. They also did double duty by keeping the kids entertained. In my adult life there has been a dog in the house constantly from small cuddly ones to larger, more robust dogs. All have been very happy. I do not keep dogs in my home as a rule; however, there can be an exception depending on the circumstances. I go to my clients homes and provide the services requested. The services range from daily visits, twice a day visits, overnight care and more. My primary care is for dogs; however I have stayed in homes that also have birds, cats and fish. I don’t have a problem caring for them as well. My overnight fee is for a 24 hour period; however, I will leave during the day for a few hours to visit my family and run errands. But the dog(s) is never left for more than 3 1/2 to 4 hours at a time. If the dog is older or ill, that time away can be adjusted to fit the situation. While I am caring for your dog(s) my main concern is for the dog(s) and its happiness and comfort. Some of my clients have needed medication during my stay with them and I don’t have a problem with that. During overnight stays the dog(s) will sleep where they normally sleep. If the client walks the dog(s) then I will also walk them according to the schedule they are comfortable with. I always insist on meeting the dog before accepting an assignment. That way we find out if the dog will accept me. There is certain information that I require in writing before accepting an assignment and that can be gained at this meeting.
