Pet care experience
I've been a reliable pet-sitter for nearby neighbors for around ten years. They know that as an animal-lover I will give their pets the best care and attention. I've done extended overnight stays, house visitations, and dog walks. I've cared for dogs with separation anxiety and cats that require special diets. Active cats love the attention of toy playtime I provide when I visit. Shy pets appreciate that I respect their space and needs. I'm attuned to their individual personalities and adjust my interactions accordingly. Although my experience is mostly cat-centric, I also enjoy caring for dogs from friendly pit-bulls and poodles to hand sized terriers. I do garden watering and miscellaneous while-you're-away tasks (mail collection, light cleaning, etc.) as needed. I look forward to building warm relationships with pets based on trust and fun times. Please note that my range of service is within a five mile radius from Occidental CA.

Everything went smooth and I felt that my fur babies were in loving care with Janet. She cared for them and checked in with pictures and updates. They bonded as I hoped they would while I was traveling. It’s nice find a trusted care giver for our two pups and kitty. Very grateful.

I do not provide pet boarding at my home because I currently have two cats who are sensitive to new animals. I'm familiar with the varied temperaments of cats, from the affectionate to the shy and angsty. I meet them according to their comfort level when entering homes for visits, and take cues for how much attention (or space) they enjoy. I know I've been truly accepted when a cat sits on my lap for pets and brushings.

For larger dogs, it's important for me to know how they behave when passing other people and dogs during a walk. I don't have the weight and muscle build necessary to handle big pups who are prone to lunge at things of interest.
A typical day
The area near Occidental is fortunate to have many back roads safe for dog walking. Whenever possible, I walk your dog on the route they are accustomed to. I take extra care to ensure dogs are under control when cars pass. If there is no safe walking space for your dog near your home, I use Deer Meadow Road as a trail. Dogs must be on leashes outside contained areas.

I'm working part-time from home, so I have plenty of time to enjoy pet-sitting on a flexible basis. The only consistent unavailable time for me is Wednesday mornings.
