In My Home Dog Boarding and Daycare

Pet care experience

Looking for a doggy-friendly place to have your best friend stay while you're away? I have plenty of room both indoors and out and access to play and pee and poop in a well-fenced yard. If you have a crate your dog is used to using, please bring it. I want your pup to feel at home. I speak both English and Spanish if that helps. We are near Midway airport and just off the highway if you're using O'hare. Why I love dog sitting My first long-term experience as a dog owner began in 1986 when we bought our first home and Ginger, our Golden Retriever joined the family. We had her for all of her over 13 years of life. Since then I've adopted as the better alternative. My next dog, a Scottie named Pippen came in 2005. He was a relinquished pet I found at the pound. Cancer took him in 2014. Before Pippen's passing my daughter's dog, a little Teddy Bear mix they'd named Lego, came to visit and stayed. As Lego grew old he lost his sight entirely and had to have one rear leg removed (8/2016). I had to set Lego free as of November 2016 after a slow decline. How I miss him! I had been volunteering fostering dogs until they found their forever homes. I what they call "failed" with one foster dog because I ended up adopting him. His name is Odie. Odie now has a new home where he's the only dog, something he needed to be more comfortable at this time of his life. We have a "forever foster" (not up for adoption), a mini Schnauzer of over 16 years of age and I just adopted (2022) a sweet rescue dog, a 9-year-old Pomeranian who is blind and deaf and has one tooth but she's cute as can be. I cannot think of a more rewarding job. I know how dogs can have a hard time at first when they're not with those they love. I do my best to let them know they are safe and special here. I also do my best to keep you connected with your baby via messages and photos throughout their stay. About my yard My backyard is a good size and has a fence around it. There is an area with grass and there is a long sidewalk. My experience administering medication I had to give my Golden Retriever a phenobarbital pill for her tendency to have seizures. I've given my dogs medicine in both pill and liquid (not so easy) form. I have experience administering injections as well. I'm retired now and have plenty of time to care for your pup. There is always someone home to watch over them, let them out, and keep them safe. We prefer not to crate the dogs in our care. If your pup is used to a crate as a bed or safe den, you are welcome to bring your crate. They are free to roam the family room and kitchen. They often enjoy time with me in the evenings in my recliner watching TV and are welcome to sleep with me or in any of the various doggy beds we have here and there.

What might frighten your dog. Time your dog is accustomed to eating, going out. What kind of play your dog enjoys. Sleeping habits Anything else you deem important that I should know I have no breed preferences. Must get along with other dogs. This is non-negotiable. Must be housebroken. I mean really!

A typical day

I am not able to walk a dog because of pain from arthritis. We have a big fenced yard where the pups can pee and poop and play, always supervised. Your dog's sleeping arrangement If your dog is in the habit of sleeping in his or her crate, bring it along if you like. If your dog has a soft bed he or she likes to lie on, bring that, too, or we have plenty of extra beds.
