My pets are my best friends!

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Janelle, and I'm the sole proprietor of Air's Pet Care (find me on FB!). I'm a lifelong animal lover, and I believe that shines through in the quality of care for the animals I've looked after. My entire life I've been surrounded by many wonderful people who would do anything for their pets. My god mum owns her own dog training business in Airdrie. I do scent detection, trick & obedience training, and private agility with Mila. I'm also licensed in K9 first-aid, once online in 2020, and most recently in-person through Canada K9 Lifeline in 2022.

Janelle's process was a bit more involved than what we were used to, Odin really liked her though and she was very good with him when she came over. We got a happy pupper back and will definitely use her again!

Janelle is very knowledgeable about dogs and is a great sitter. Finn stayed with her for 2 days and I had no doubts that my dog was in good hands with her.

Our large breed dogs did great with Janelle and she leaves a great update after checking in on them. Grateful to know my dogs are looked after when I’m away!

Janelle was a fantastic housesitter! She took excellent care of my 4 cats, was able to accommodate their rigorous raw feeding schedule, and gave my 1 cat meds orally twice a day. My home was clean and tidy when I got home, and I was sent plenty of updates and pics while I was gone. I'll absolutely have Janelle back when I need to go away again!

I try to exceed expectations each time I work with a client. I can help maintain pet health by facilitating both mental and physical exercise, including socialization. Other specific tasks I can assist with include: administering prescribed medications; performing tank maintenance for non-furry family members; playing with animals to give outlets; practicing learned tricks with dogs; even transporting pets to and from the vet office or groomers during your workday.

Information Janelle W. would like to know about your pet

For the safety of myself, my animals, the people in my life, and your own pet, I cannot accept services for a pet that has had a history of aggression towards people or animals. For boarding in my home, your pet must be good with dogs AND cats, my cats are dog-saavy but I don't want it to be a stressful experience for anyone! For boarding extending past 2 nights, I can accommodate dogs who are not good with cats. I want to know what kind of leader you are in your household, and what kind of structure you give your pets in order for them to thrive! I will do my best to incorporate it into my household in a safe way. It's important that I'm aware of any behavioural concerns (ie: reactivity, prey drive, insecurities, separation anxiety, resource guarding, etc), pre-existing medical conditions, or dietary restrictions, and if they are intact or not. I require your pet(s) to be up-to-date on their vaccinations and parasite prevention for their safety, the public's safety, and the safety of myself and my pets. I keep detailed notes on all relevant information about my furry clients, so if you end up forgetting something, we'll cover it during the meet-and-greet. I'd love to schedule a free meet & greet to meet your beloved pet before booking!

A typical day

I look at every outing as an opportunity to strengthen the bond between myself and the dog, and give this endeavor my fullest attention! I love doing training sessions with dogs, it helps increase their self-confidence, and deepen our bond. I typically walk my dog around Penhold, varying the routes to provide lots of interesting smells and sights. Walks with my dog are working walks, where we work on exposure to new stimuli, improving leash manners, and building confidence. If your dog has leash reactivity, please inform me beforehand so I am not caught off-guard! Due to liability concerns, I do not bring client dogs to the dog park or any unfenced area off-leash. If dogs require a larger run than my yard allows, I will gladly take them to my parent's yard, where they could meet her energetic and friendly Standard poodles, Sulta and Bizzy for a playdate! Though I pay close attention to individual dogs' conditions, I adhere to Veterinary-recommend guidelines regarding temperature and outdoor time - taking the RealFeel temperature, moisture, coat & breed, medical conditions, and more into account when determining if it is safe to be out for a period of time (walks, drop-ins, potty breaks). If you would like more information, I can send you my many resources on the topic! If it is too cold for a walk, I make sure to provide even more physical and/or mental stimulation to the pups indoors. I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and if I have a flare-up, may not be able to provide as much physical activity as I would hope to normally, but can provide plenty of mental stimulation - which for most dogs is even more important!

I currently have three pets of my own: a shy female tabby cat, a curious and fearless Paws & Claws male tabby, and a 22.4kg female Husky/Anatolian Shepherd/mix rescue that I got from Saving Grace in June '22 when she was approximately 1.5 years. I have been doing pet-care full-time for about three years. From September to April I am a part-time Visual Arts student at Red Deer Polytechnic. Until October, Saturdays I bartend weddings at Canyon Ski Resort, while my partner stays behind with my zoo! I recently lost my father at the age of 54, and so I appreciate your patience if I take longer than typical to respond or send invoices.
